You can never judge a player on one start but the signs today were positive. Offers a different option up top in the style of a physical target man, which is something we've lacked since Dembele went to Lyon.

Delighted he's got his first goal, hopefully plenty more will follow now. The position he was in for our opener was where we needed Edouard to be quite often last season but he was usually deeper than he needed to be. If Giakoumakis has that striker's instinct (and going by his scoring record last season he does) then we will likely start to convert more of these crosses into the box.

We need players willing to risk things, in order to give him service. Excellent shot technique was evident in the Venlo highlights, and it's no fluke- he really is deadly.

I can't quite pinpoint why but there is something about him I really really like, it's still very early days obviously but I don't have that fear that he will just be average, chip in with a goal or two that I felt with Klimala, Bayo etc.

Yeah, he definitely seems a cut above that. We've had a lot of players with good physical attributes and hoped they'd develop technically but thankfully he looks to technically strong.

Liking what I'm seeing so far. Kyogo is wasted on the wings tho. Sacrificing Turnbull so that Kyogo can come central and play off the big guy with Johnstone Left and Jota right is definitely the move right now.

Oddly looks like Bitton and Troy Deeney put together.

I like this idea. Also gives the opportunity to rotate Turnbull and Tam which could be important. I don't think Ange is goanny go for it though unfortunately.

Reckon when Forrest is back he’ll deliver plenty good crosses for the lad.

Be inclined to do the same. Though perhaps Rogic instead of Turnbull as Turnbull will at least be able to help out with McGregor more.

Giakoumakis looks a good option at times, off the bench for sure in a game, but also as a proper 2 up front if we ever went that way - or at least Kyogo playing in the hole behind to support.
That is two strikers, both left and right side, that Kyogo has been shifted out of his best position for and both times we see he is less effective. To the extent that both times when Kyogo eventually got shifted up top, the dynamic of each game changed in our favour and we became a bigger threat.

Quite rightly, tbh. The entire system would have to change as a consequence.

Giakoumakis will hopefully prove to be a good player for us but right now we're at out best with Kyogo as the central striker, making runs in behind. He doesn't need to play off another striker. Just needs service from midfield and out wide.
