First thing I thought about was the Brandon Lee incident. Just horrible news for anyone to lose a family member in that way

I'm sure I've heard before that a 'faulty' blank can still fire and be quite dangerous.

Just don't understand why anyone would use them knowing that if something goes wrong you're getting shot. Surely just use fake guns? Movies with guns are unrealistic as * anyway.

Terrible news. Really boggles the mind that in this age that the safety is not taken more seriously when it comes to firearms... but then again it is America.

RIP Halyna Hutchins. I can't recall havng come across the name before, and quick check on imdb don't think have sat through any of the films that she worked on. A tragedy, none the less.

They may be 'propguns', but most are still real guns, which means that they not just look real, but are real, which means that they give real recoil and produce a muzzleflash and all that, which is why thy are often preferred to fake 'prop' guns. And yes totallly agree, that faulty blank cartridge with the paper cap or whatever can still be dangerous, and indeed, as in this case, deadly and tragic.

If I am not mistaken, the Brandon Lee incident was not to do with a faulty blank though, it was because the gun was virtually held at close to point blank and it was the force of the impact from the recoil that fatally cracked his skull.

Had a very quick look on wiki there out of interest and it says Brandon Lee's was caused by a dummy bullet from a previous shot being lodged in the barrel, so when the next blank round fired it threw that forward as if it was a normal bullet.

There was also an incident on the set of Cover Up (1984) which resulted in the death of Jon-Eric Hexum. He was playing around and didn't realise that a blank would still create enough force to cause serious injury.

Looks like in all cases there was far too little control over the use of the prop guns.

Horrendous for all involved, especially the woman’s loved ones.

Social media is a cesspit at the moment. People are so * weird, digging around Baldwin’s tweets as if he meant what happened.

Brandon died from a bullet wound to his stomach.
They had put a bullet in the gun for realism for a previous scene in the film, for the scene where he died someone put the blank cartridge in but never checked the chamber of the gun, the blank went off and sent the bullet in the chamber into Brandon.

In my opinion he was going to be a big star, for someone I didn't know I remember being quite upset when I heard he had died.

No idea why this has happened again, terrible for all concerned!

Horrific for everyone involved and Hutchins' family. Just find it crazy how mistakes like this happen.

there is 2 types of guns used on sets, the 1st is a replica gunshot can only fire blanks the 2nd is a real gun that is adapted to fire blanks, but apparently the film is about the old west and to keep the film true they use original 1800s guns which are adapted and that in itself is not 100% safe. this is what I heard this morning on the radio from a Hollywood gunsmith who supplies movie sets. also I heard it was a shotgun, which would make sense as it hit 2 of them with one shot.

    Just cant get enough
    Tragic thing to happen.
In the days when health and safety are taken so seriously, it’s amazing that real guns are allowed anywhere near a movie set.

Why would he be firing the gun towards/at 2 crew who weren’t actors or due to be on film ?

Maybe just running through scenes but seems odd.
