Ross Doohan

TRANMERE Rovers have made a move to land Ross Doohan from Celtic, writes Scott Burns.
The English League Two side want to sign the keeper on-loan.
Tranmere boss Micky Mellon previously worked with Doohan at Dundee United last season.
He took him on-loan at the end of the season to cover on an emergency loan after Benjamin Siegrist broke his hand.
Mellon now wants to take the 23-year-old to Prenton Park to challenge for their No. 1 position.
Doohan is keen to go out and get more games with Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard all ahead of him in the Celtic pecking order.
Hazard currently has a minor injury and once that is cleared then he should be given the green light to move to Tranmere.
Doohan also had a loan spell at Ross County last season and has previously had a spell at Ayr United.
Dundee United are also watching Doohan’s situation closely but they would only firm things up if Siegirst was sold before the close of the window.

If he’s not good enough to shift either of the three we have might just be the right time to move on for both parties.

 

How is he 23 ffs. I like the way that we won't let him go until our third choice goalie gets over a minor injury yet we line out in a champions league qualifier with only Ralston as a recognised RB

At this stage is there any point in loaning him instead of selling?

If he's not as good as hazard then he's not good enough. If he's better than hazard we should sell hazard and keep doohan

 

No point in hanging around Celtic, not going to get a look in. Go out on loan, impress, then maybe comes back into the picture at Celtic.

 

Just let him go on a free contract. Get him off the wage bill

 

Can't see him having cost us much at all.

He's hardly been at Celtic the last 3 years, always on loan. His agent must be right on top of his career.

 

Ross Doohan will complete his loan move from Celtic to Tranmere this week.

The reserve goalkeeper has not had a look in despite the Hoops' woes between the sticks.

And his chances were not improved when Joe Hart completed his signing at Parkhead yesterday afternoon.

Micky Mellon, meanwhile, is a big fan of the 23-year-old having taken him on loan to Dundee United last season.

Herald and Times Sport understands Doohan will complete his medical at Prenton Park tomorrow morning and become a member of the squad later this week.


We told recently how Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou had planned to take stock of his goalie options after arriving as new boss. And behind Hart, Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain remains Conor Hazard, the academy stopper who played a handful of games last season.

Doohan has played for Greenock Morton, Ayr Utd and the Arabs on loan in recent seasons as well as Ross County in the Premiership

 

Good news, hopefully he will be their first choice for the season and then we should be able to make a call, see if he is worth persisting with.

 

4 clean sheets in 6 league games since coming into the team, started the season as back-up but an injury to the first choice keeper gave him his chance and he has now seems to have nailed down the number one slot as the regular goalie is fit again but is now on the bench behind Doohan.

 

Certainly cannot be worse than our greek 'international'

 

He seems to be doing well right now, good on him but why do we agree to loan out a player if he is going to be warming a bench?

 

Always been impressed when I’ve seen Doohan, and I say that as someone who’s typically been rooting against his side.

Meanwhile, Celtic goalkeeper Ross Doohan, 24, is wanted on loan by Doncaster, with St Johnstone also keen.

He spent last season out on loan at Tranmere Rovers.
