turned into a great game a goal each in a 2min spell and then mpbappe could have scored to put france 2-1 up

Just an average Spain side. Got some top young players but not many stars in their team at all.

    Desperately lacking a cutting edge.

No one mentioning France's 2nd was clearly offside? People online saying as Garcia touched it as he was trying to intercept, it's not offside? Mbappe was beyond the last man when the ball was played. Garcia tries to intercept, but can only get a slight touch on it, therefore Mbappe is not offside? What utter cunting bullshit is this??

Didn't they change it, again, so that a player was only called offside once someone from the team touched it, so the ballsed up interception makes it onside. Could be wrong but I think that's it.

That's France now won the World Cup, Euros, Confederations Cup, Nations league and Olympics.

Mental logic for that 2nd goal.

    It's offside.

Otherwise we now open up the potential for an attacker to poach in the penalty box, 40 yards offside, but a midfielder just needs to rattle it off one of the opponent's to seem the pass onside.

The law is if that the defender deliberately plays the ball the attacker is onside.

A deliberate act for me is when a defender has clearly made an effort to pass and has had control of the ball. Last night the defender had no control over the ball. It was a last ditch effort to block the ball and the outcome was not deliberate. He was forced to try and block the ball as the ball was travelling to Mbappe who was offside.

Remember the Man City goal against Aston Villa earlier this year? The Villa defender controlled the ball on his chest and the Man City player stole the ball off him and it lead to a goal.

The original excuses for that was it wasn't offside because Mings had deliberately played the ball. After discussions with the law makers they agreed the goal shouldn't have stood and clarified the law.

Under the guidance given the goal last night was offside. Neither incident should have stood at the time and shows even at the highest levels of refereeing that common sense and bad interpretations are made.

This last bit has irked me for decades. The rules are the rules, it should NEVER be up to the ref to "interpret" them (I know not what you are saying, but what we hear from pundits and others over decades). They literally are paid to enforce the rules.
No wonder we then get refs being accused of biased, when they are allowed to do as they please.

The problem is the laws are open to interpretation. Did the referees believe he was trying to pass back and just made a hash of it. I get what you are saying but you can't train a referee to know every single infinite possibility of what happens in a match.
