Not what anybody wants to hear, but McArthur was absolutely the better player, and by a reasonable distance. For Palace at least, I'm not sure about before that.

Had to laugh at Tom Boyd today making up all the excuses for him as he hadn't played on such a poor surface to which Gerry McCulloch just replied yeah but he made his name at Hamilton

Celtic TV has always been a pish service, but their biggest crime is still giving Tom Boyd a gig as co-commentator.

I've honestly never heard anyone less suited to commentary. He makes Kris Boyd sound intelligent.

He is a diehard Tim and our former captain.

Aye it's been way over the top on him..

He actually started well but his passing went to *..

I feel like it was a start too soon for him as he faded badly..

    I know who he is.

He's still thick as mince and should be nowhere near a mic commentating on a game of football. Just like the pie man himself.

Was like he hadn't seen a ball before at times yesterday. Like one of the wee alien things oot space jam took over him.

He was the signing I was actually most pleased with as I genuinely think if we get him fit he will run it for us but he looks miles off it still, currently.

Our midfield is a serious concern. Used to be our strongest area.

Jesus didn't realise McCarthy wasn't allowed a poor performance. He was bad, but thought he was decent in Betis on Thursday night and against County after coming on last week too. Pretty confident he'll come good.

    https://celtsarehere.com/dressing-room-sources-struggling-celt-was-not-signed-by-ange-or-scouts/

The Athletic wrote: Dressing room sources have spoken of how James McCarthy has struggled in training with the pace and intensity of Postecoglou’s sessions and the demands of his midfielders. The Athletic understands neither Postecoglou nor the scouting department had meaningful input into signing McCarthy, and the Republic of Ireland international looked uncomfortable during the Livingston game. He often needed to take two or three touches and misplaced many of his passes, sometimes from close range while under no pressure. It was an incredibly awkward first start.

He looked terrible yesterday but he’s played for some decent teams.
Would be surprised if Ange’s training is a lot more intense than he’s used to in the EPL.
Hopefully not just here to boost his pension pot. Needs to up his game quickly.

I'd like more reports from these "dressing room sources", namely on whether the team does any defensive training.

As for McCarthy, nothing surprising. He's a defensive midfielder who probably never played for a possession-oriented team in his life. I don't mind him being bad at controlling the ball, but if Ange does, then he shouldn't have been signed up.

It was his 1st start for us, so a wee bit of patience is required.

This. One game doesnt define him.

He was signed as a free agent who hadnt had a pre season with a club when our season had started.

He needs minutes in his legs to get match fitness and sharpness. The demands of a competitive match cant be replicated.

What makes me wonder is, who was dishing out the 4 year contracts and why? If he doesn't come good we are lumbered with a high earner for 4 years, if he get over his injuries we might be able to move him on. This has PL and DD plastered all over it, I don't get the reason why when rebuilding a team they feel the need to force players onto the manager.
