Better not be a long-term injury, if it is then we're up * creek without a paddle.

Which if true shows why they should not be running the club.

Our squad is the shambles it is due to their mismanagement and shoddy hiring for key roles including Head of Football Operations and Manager, not to mention a CEO who tried to do jobs he had no clue on.

The only reason they will think we spent too much is that they wanted it all to fund their Barrowfield redevelopment. It’s obvious that’s why they were stockpiling transfer profits to fund this prior to COVID.

This is what the squad downsizing is about finding cash to pay dividends and expand the other assets of the club. Again I am not saying that project isn’t needed but a club who have struggled to cover their operating costs should be looking at financing such a project another way rather than delving into the football department to fund all these special projects.

However that won’t be considered as one of those options would see the big shareholders actually putting their hand in the pocket, even in exchange for equity back. They won’t though as that will dilute their shareholding.

Our second biggest investor has openly admitted they bought shares as we are steady and is basically holding them with the hope we find a way to capture our global audience,
Monetise it, be that exit to a bigger league. Combine that with our main shareholder seeing it as a toy like a nice car or big house to boost his ego.

Big game for McCarthy and Soro then. I'd play both with just one of Turnbull and Rogic.

Hope your right and it is just tomorrow night he is missing. It would be a massive blow if it was anything serious.

I fear that injuries will cost us this season.

Time for McCarthy to step up.

Hope Calum isn’t out for long. So important to the way we play.

We'll find out if Desmond has an eye for a player, if Scales and McCarthy start on Thursday.

It doesn’t really though. We have players who can step into his position. McCarthy and Soro. They might not be as good but that’s usually why they are backups. Same goes for any team in the world.

Bare bones squad would imply that when a player is injured there is literally no one to take their place.

Thing is, McCarthy probably approaches his level. He’s better in some ways as well. Ideally both would be available.

As it is, having James McCarthy as back up, then Soro, then Bitton, then Shaw isn’t all that bad at all.

I know what you're saying and McCarthy at his best and fully fit is a natural successor for me in the McGregor role. Would allow us to move McGregor up one. The problem is he's still miles off being 100% fit..

Soro for me is never a 6. A pressing, bombing on 8..

Its not really about luck though, we have a tendancy to run players into the ground (until Ange came in) and do not have adequate squad replacements due to recent wasteful/passive transfer windows. I'm not sure on our medical team either and our new signings are often not fit or match fit for ages which is a real problem.

We are always an injury or two away from a crisis, to be fair we aren't the only team. But when you are in the position we are in as a club it shouldn't be a problem - yet always is.

    We create our own shortcomings

The problem with McCarthy, or any of our CMs apart from McGregor, is that they either don't have the mobility (McCarthy, Turnbull, Bitton) or the technique/composure (Soro) to play that deep role in Ange's system, where you're seeing a lot of the ball under pressure. You notice it immediately in games where Cal was subbed off, that our ability to play out from the back and maintain control diminishes sharply.

A deep-lying playmaker is sort of static, so Bitton would be the least bad for just building attacks from the back. But then playing both Rogić and Turnbull in front is suicidal- that midfield has no energy or defensive tenacity.

To be fair that's why McGregor is our captain and the best player in the league. If we were to try and buy him you're looking at upwards of 20million so it's no surprise the quality drops when he departs. To think there was many wanting him punted last season as well.
