In 10 trophy-laden years at Paradise between 1995 and 2005, Jackie McNamara wore the green and white Hoops of Celtic with pride – latterly as club captain.

Today, the ex-Celt launches his first book titled, ‘His Name is McNamara: The Autobiography of Jackie McNamara’, which charts his prolific career in football – at Celtic and beyond – and explores how the brain aneurism he suffered last year impacted his life and his family.

“The book is about my life and my career, and while I’ve been asked to do it a number of times over the years, I’ve always been reluctant to do it, especially when I was still playing and managing,” said McNamara in an exclusive interview with Celtic TV.

“What happened to me last year and the experience of that made me think it was right to do one then, to put it out there and if someone else is going through what I did last year, then maybe this can help them come to terms with it and maybe deal with it when they’re up against it.”

In the book, McNamara discusses how he coped with short-term memory loss, and learning to walk and talk again on his road to recovery.

“But it’s amazing how the body can recover,” he added, “and hopefully when people read my book, it can maybe help other people deal with things. It can take time to get better, but it is achievable.”

His Name is McNamara: The Autobiography of Jackie McNamara is on sale now in the Celtic Superstore.

Jackie McNamara was one of my favourite players growing up.

Sitting watching games with my old man and he would always sing, oh his name is McNamara he's the leader of the band.

Jackie, Simon Donnelly, Tosh, Tom Boyd oaft, what a team.

Still one of my favourite Celtic players. It was a different game when he played but he destroyed teams doon that right wing. Him and Simon Donnelly had some understanding and I remember they two tearing the huns apart time and again (although we still usually lost).

Was criminal the way Celtic treated him when he left. He should have been offered a new contract automatically after the 10 year of service he had given us. Instead Celtic held out right till the transfer deadline day and had the cheek to finally offer him a new contract when he was on the train down to sign for Wolves. Honestly, the way we treat some of our players and ex players is ridiculous
