NL: on Daniel Arzani: “He’s played a couple of development games and there’s another one next week. If he comes through that ok he may start to feature before the end of the season.”

Think we had an option to take him at the end of his loan for quite cheap but i can't imagine he'll be back..

One of the worst loan deals of all time, 2 years and played about 20 minutes.

Tbf his injury cost him about 18 months.

    I think there's a player there.

Just a very unlucky loan period for all included. From the very limited 15 minutes we seen of him he looked good. Might be a really good player, might not be. Just a very unfortunate set of circumstances. Wish him well in the future

Socceroos attacker Daniel Arzani is poised to join an unnamed Dutch club as he bids to cast aside the disappointment of an injury-marred two-year loan with Celtic.

The youngest player ever to represent Australia at a FIFA World Cup, Arzani, 21, is understood to have departed for Europe over the weekend, with the Netherlands his final destination.

It’s likely the switch - to a mid-table Eredivisie club - will be a loan deal with Manchester City remaining as parent club.

Arzani will undergo a medical on Tuesday before the deal is finalised.

He had been linked with second-tier NAC Breda - a club that has an agreement in place with Manchester City to help develop their young players, but it appears Arzani will be heading to the Dutch top flight instead.

The move offers Australian football’s most gifted next gen star the opportunity to reignite the excitement which crackled around him during a breakthrough season at Melbourne City and three cameo appearances at Russia 2018.

With Australia due to return to 2022 World Cup qualification action in October - COVID-19 travel regulations permitting - coach Graham Arnold is keen to see his brightest young prospect playing again.

Arzani was limited to just two substitute appearances in two seasons at Celtic Park, where an anterior cruciate ligament rupture on debut rubbed him out for 15 months.

He told The World Game back in May that the Netherlands was an attractive option after the frustration of his Scottish adventure.

“Holland comes up because it’s a selling league and they develop a lot of really good talent there,” Arzani said.

Daniel Arzani (21) is on his way to FC Utrecht. Only multiple paperwork separates the multiple Australian international from a rental period in the Dom city. He comes over from Manchester City. FC Utrecht also still hopes for the arrival of Mimoun Mahi from FC Zürich.

Born in Iran, Arzani broke through as a great talent at Melbourne City. Trainer John van 't Schip made him debut there. In August 2018, Manchester City removed the attacker from the Australians. He was immediately let to Celtic, where he suffered two frustrating seasons due to injury. The 2017/2018 season was therefore his best year, since then he hardly made any minutes

Arzani is out for a season full of playing time and had plenty of options, also in England, but he opts for a rental period at FC Utrecht. There he joins the first team. The transfer of youth keeper Mikki van Sas (16) from FC Utrecht to City was the impetus for the lease on the attacker. The deal is not yet official, however: the Australian still needs a work permit and the remaining paperwork has yet to be completed. However, he is already in the Netherlands.

Arzani played several international matches for Australia, where he was the youngest player ever to play at a World Cup. He was only 19 years old when he made minutes at the 2018 World Cup under national coach Bert van Marwijk. Incidentally, his last international match also dates back to the end of 2018. At the time, City was responding to the stormy development of the still only 21-year-old Arzani, who is at the forefront in all places. The Citizens would like to rent Arzani again to see him in action a season more often.

Hope he does well, without the injury I think he would have done well but by the time he was fit he was just playing catch up on a team playing well.

Yeah that initial injury and then the season being curtailed short, was just not able to happen for the lad, real shame as there is a real talent in there. Hope he kicks on and hope he doesn't regret his time here too much.

Th Aussie manager didn't help at all for the perception of his time here.

Looks like he might start for Oz against Vietnam tonight.

Desperately hoping he comes good - was such a talent before his injury.
