He was decent enough, although their frontline barely made us work too hard.

Thats exactly what Starfelt was supposed to be. What are we to do now? Throw another fee the guts of 5 million at someone else and just pray they don’t have an error in them too?

Do some real scouting, perhaps? By all accounts, the Croatia lad we were after at the beginning of the window has huge potential. We could've signed Itakura, who would've been far better than Starfelt.

There's much better defenders out there than him.

We paid 8m for Julien and he's far from perfect.

We paid 4m for Starfelt, and we got what we paid for.

If you want a competent, modern day centre back you unfortunately have to pay big money. I don't see us spending 10m+ but thats what a Julien upgrade costs.

Welsh is levels above Starfelt, never cost anything except time and effort.

He handled it much better than I thought he would.

That in itself though isn't a great compliment as I was really concerned about him going into it.

Done well yesterday, totally blameless for the goal as Welsh lost Helander and Starfelt was trying to cover both Helander and Goldson as the cross came in. I think he's gonna come good for us and build on that.

Starfelt done his job in covering Goldson and in doing so Helander got in when Welsh should have been watching his run

Starfelt would be a great 3rd choice Loovens type.

We need better cover at cb given age of Welsh and injuries to Jullien

Played well, which goes to prove how quickly he’s become the go to whipping boy.

I actually thought he played well too tbh, confused were all this criticism is coming from on yesterday's performance.
Only thing he and welsh did to annoy me other than the goal was they were to slow with thier passing, other than that we didnt give away many chances.

He did nothing wrong yesterday and handled himself more than adequately. But that' just exactly the problem- ''Adequately'' isn't good enough. If we want to progress we need to find better. * be fine for cover and rotation at home against the dross etc.

As others have said though there are anomalies out there if you look hard enough, as I have mentioned in player suggestions Simon Deli at Club Brugge looks like one of them. He is a big strong international centre back who is quick, experienced, good on ball and in the air. Is out of their squad as they have some other highly rated defenders and Mechele who they rate too.

He’s on around £18k a week in last year of his deal and they are looking to offload him. He would be a modest fee at most and on a comparable wage should be affordable to us.

There will be others like him too.

Thought he had a decent game yesterday, bar one standout mistake in the oppositions half he was solid enough.

Out of all the performers yesterday, the defence and keeper were the least of the worries.

Agreed thought Starfelt and the backline and keeper in general played well. Yesterdays game was lost by our attacking players no show. Complete opposite of what I expected in that I was really worried our backline would get opened up all over the shop yesterday but felt we would be able to do likewise to them. In the end the game was the complete opposite.

Not convinced yet but didn't do an awful lot wrong yesterday. He could still come good but am worried. As for Welsh he has his qualities and he has his flaws. Still very very young for a cb. Loads of learning to do yet.

I don't really know what more we could've asked for from Starfelt yesterday. Can be pleased with his afternoon's work. Goal wasn't his fault, he was clearly marking Goldson.

    How does that prove anything?

The guy has been a shambles since he came in, yesterday was his first DECENT game in a jersey for us.
