He will bring experience which we need, him and Hart are leaders and we need them.

If we can keep him fit I think he will be a welcome addition

Happy enough with Hart, got to be better than what we have. But not happy with JMc, having watched most of his games for ROI, never rated him, I always described him as a player who could never run a game, gave the impression of a dont pass the ball to me kind of player. I was forever * at seeing him with his hand raised, pointing to other players, like saying pass it to him, not me. Just my take on the guy. Saying that, most of his ROI games were in a rank team.

Im optimistic about this one and i think he will prove to be better than just a decent signing.

A lot highlighting his injury record, but not many highlighting how he came back from a double leg break that could have ended a players career.
He showed great attitude to recover from that and came back to a level where he was regularly playing against some of the best quality players and coming out on top. He was highly regarded at Everton and by their supporters before this.

He will give us great balance in the midfield and he can keep possession well. I see him as the defensive mid for us going forward.

Its just mad its taken this board this long to sign him and just highlights how far off it they really are. The faster they get out of the way, if that means they leave/step down or if a DoF is placed in charge, the better. Shambles.

Absolutely never saw any leadership qualities in JMc.

To me that can mean better game awareness, a lot of times there is a better pass on, it is one of the things we were terrible at under Rodgers, we never skipped a player always passed it around in predictable patterns, to switch the ball it took us 3-4 passes by that time the opposition had shuffled across.

We're still doing it. Hopefully Ange trains that out of them.

I’ve not read the previous pages so apologies if it’s been mentioned.

The 4 year deal is a result of the fact we are unwilling to meet his demands over a shorter term.

For example if he wanted 25k a week on a two year deal, we’ve offered 15k a week on a four year deal.

It gives the player more security whilst we are not paying as much from our annual budget.

I really rate McCarthy but fitness is the main issue. If he’s fit he’s the best midfielder in Scotland, possibly the best player.

I think naturally at his age his experience he has a wealth of knowledge as a seasoned professional footballer he can pass on plenty.

McCarthy will do a good job if he stays fit. He keeps it simple and likes a tackle. He's one of us as well which is always a bonus or at least it was till Shane Duffy appeared.

Probably the best option for both parties tbh. If it doesnt work for him here there is still the chance he goes somewhere else to play and his wages are less likely to put teams off.

Regardless, its a free transfer for a player who otherwise might have cost a few million

McCarthy is a cracking player in my opinion. The concern is keeping him fit. Happy with the signing though.

Would like to see him in beside Soro/Shaw with McGregor pushed on. Turnbull looks like he needs a break or to work on his fitness.

I think most Irish fans share this criticism of McCarthy, he always goes hiding when playing for Ireland. Shies away from the ball and, like you said, does a lot of pointing. The weird thing is I've seen him really turn up for big games at Everton so I've no idea why this only ever seemed to be an issue with Ireland.

Probably doesn't value international football and doesn't want out injured for 6 months because of it.

Bang on with this, Turnbull just doesn’t look the same player at the moment.
