I would like him to be in the AM position- change back the tactic. His long shots are going to be one of our rare ways of scoring, unless we sign a good striker.

McGregor is another contender if he keeps up this form. I just think Turnbull will begin to thrive once we have a settled team. I'm really hoping Postecoglou can get the best out of him.

Aye, I get that mate. Just don’t think the 433 suits him just now and will take him a while to adapt to it.

Seen it as more McGregor and Soro both side's with Turnbull chipping in..

He wants us pressing as a unit and high up so everyone has to be doing it..

I rate Turnbull a lot but I'm no sure how much we could get out of him having to drop back and press evrrytime we don't have the ball..

Soro was definitely the one in the middle, with McGregor and Turnbull either side.

We'll soon have games coming thick and fast so he'll get plenty of practice. I know we've had a poor start to the season with no wins in three games, but I still like the way Postecoglou comes across in the media we've seen of him. I've no doubt he'll be working hard with the team on the training field to get them used to his system, even I think he does need to be a bit more adaptable.

Aye think you're right there actually as it goes. He doesn't have the engine to get across and cover a whole side if Ralston has slotted in to midfield..

We're gonna have to sort something out..

Aye, which is why I think McCarthy will end up the anchor with Soro as RCM covering and driving forward with the ball

That doesn't leave a lot of goals from central midfield with McCarthy sitting and Soro box to box (although I think that'll be his best position for us)..

Leaves a lot on McGregor in the middle. It's definitely time the shackles were let off of him..

McGregor will get amongst them and then the 3 up front (hopefully!) when it clicks. Add big Jullien back in the mix and Tony Ralston doing his Messi impersonation :56: we’ll be sound mate.

I agree with this. Think Ange’s missing a trick not using 4-2-3-1. It suits us far better - means Turnbull isn’t having to come from deep so often. This makes his runs and dribbles generally shorter, and therefore saves his stamina, to a certain extent. Also gets him closer to the danger area, where you want him; and further away from deeper areas, where his passing represents a higher risk: it isn’t going to hurt us as much if he loses it high up the pitch.

No one ever thought it a good idea to drop Juan Roman Riquelme to an 8 or 6 position and expect him to run for 90 mins. Genius though he was, he’d have blown out his backside by the 70th minute.

I’m not saying Turnbull doesn’t have to improve his athleticism - he does, and especially for Ange’s style. But we can get better out of him in the meantime by mitigating that weakness in moving him back to the 10 position.

Exactly. In fact, if we don’t relieve him of that duty, we will end up wasting him. You can easily have 1 player out of 10 who, while still looking to press, doesn’t have to do it relentlessly and can be allowed a bit more time. It’s not like he’d be ‘stopping’; he’d just not be running as much - there’s a difference: it frees him up to do more nuanced work.

To me, the lad is easily our most technically talented playmaker. Does need to improve his athleticism, but that’s different from kidding on he’s N’Golo Kante. Needs the 10 position back, badly.

    This won’t end well otherwise.
Reminds me of Mourinho-Hazard or Klopp-Coutinho: in the end it comes to a head and either the player or the manager gets moved on.

It’s one thing having a system and relying on getting ‘buy-in’ from players, and it’s quite another wasting one of the club’s most promising assets.

I don't think Turnbull suits the system. Although we have only had a few games he may just take a while to get to pace with things, some players do.

Good player but sloppiness is creeping into his play, needs to up his game.

He needs a dedicated coach to bring his athleticism up to professional standard.

We should be investing in that.

Not really getting the negativity around him. He'll be fine and don't think he's been that bad.
