Amazing what decent teammates and an actual football manager can do for a player.

    Well, not really.

That performance last night was the McGregor of old and in total contrast to his performances of last season. It clearly showed what he is about when he is surrounded by decent players and playing to a system. Hopefully our new manager can get the same type of enthusiasm and determination out of him that Steve Clarke did.

That performance shows what he can do in a balanced, organised structure and game plan. Opposed to covering for an immobile Brown and no tactics whatsoever.

If the team is set up properly, with no passengers in it, he'll come good in it.

Both those things were his downfall the last couple years.

Clear as day how deep Brown was sitting, he ended up playing as a CB and honestly, we lost control of the midfield for so long over the last 2 seasons. McGregor then needs to do his work AND Browns actual CM duties. No wonder he was worn down and looking ineffective. Add to that, Lennon clearly was playing folk out of position, had no game plan, tactics, anything.

    McGregor doesn't just become *.
Like a lot of players, there is certainly plenty of understanding why they all looked off their game. Doesn't excuse every single one of them though, personal pride should have kicked in for some of them.

Some really good posts regarding CMcG and reasons for his poor showing this season.
Onward and upward, new man at the helm, with the addition of some quality players, we will see him back to his best, like when he had KT behind him and Sinclair in front.
Him, Turnbull and Forrest can be corner stone of the new rebuild.

Confidence is a huge part of any creative / attacking player..... here's hoping the plaudits he received for his performances for Scotland, will boost him up for a great season in Celtic midfield this season

Not having to do extra running to compensate for Broony's lack of mobility will help massively too.

I was disappointed that Clarke left him out the starting lineup against the Czechs. McGregor came on and he took control of the Scotland play. Taking the ball off the defence and building the play. On Friday, over 90% pass completion. Along with Gilmour, we had two players wanting the ball and wanting to play passes. Two guys setting a platform to build and progress our play.

I see a few people are again questioning whether he should start against Croatia, as it appears Gilmour and McGinn are undroppable. For me, I would be changing others positions before even touching that midfield group.

I'd be surprised if McGregor isn't one of the first names on the team sheet. I would leave the starting 11 exactly the same as the England game.

Held to a different standard to Edouard. I can't know which standard is right but we shouldn't excuse one player and not the other.

Getting back to his brilliant best. That’s a trademark CalMac finish.

Slow to read the danger for the first Croatia goal. Made up for it with a good finish and was tidy on the ball. Hopefully he can get back to his best for us next season.

Over the moon to see him performing again, and grateful he prevented us from being the only nation at the tournament that didn't score. Time to have a quick rest and get back to buisiness for us.

Scored that goal then immediately grabbing those around them to keep calm and keep the head.

And people don’t think he’s a leader on the pitch. Baffles me man.

Cal Mac could've reacted better but i honestly thought O’Donnell made an * of it in the first place.

Showed good composure for his goal.
