Seen Yogi’s rumoured to be in for the job. That would be brilliant news I think.

I'd rather have him as first team manager than Angie :56:

    Knows the league/the club
    Plays attractive football
    Blood's kid's

I don't want him at all but if it was a choice over our new guy, I'd snap the hand off for Hughes..

    The lowlands i think..

Don't see the point personally, the standard is atrocious. You're wanting your kid's to play at a decent standard so they improve..

We'd be better off just loaning the whole lot out to the lower league's, championship/league 1 and 2..

If you keep itt to u18s or 19s then there could be a point. I doubt players over 17 or 18 would gain much though.

Aye for that level - assuming we can not get promoted to the SPFL setup, then it's gonna be pointless other than the u18 team.

I can hardly see us willing putting Connell, O'Connor, Dembele, Robertson, Henderson out there to play against Kelty Hearts, Spartans, East Kilbride and expecting them to actually learn anything. No offence to the lads who play there on their weekend off from work, but it's hardly going to be anything to expect our pro players to be able to achieve anything from.

U17/18 year old teams, brilliant. But we will just end up at the same point we are now - were a guy like Dembele is playing 2 years above his age group, gets to 17 or 18 and is deemed not good enough to go up to the main squad (for what ever reason). Dropping back down to that sort of level isn't bridging that gap at all, from a Celtic perspective.

Would be good for Hughes to get the role as he seems to be quite motivated working with young talent but I would assume he would want to work at a higher level.
I wonder if the finance that the lowland league get from this would make them a richer league than league 2? I hope so.
I think the teams that have been promoted to league 2 (might only be highland league teams) have done well so hopefully the standard isn't too bad, players like Connell should be nowhere near it, leave it for the younger lads

A one season trial, no promotion - no relegation. With discussions between the lowland/SPFL/SFA at the end of that season to see where it goes after that. Things being punted about is that the SPFL may be willing to expand the 2nd division to allow 2xHighland, 2xLowland and the 2xColts team the following year. In that the Colts won’t be allowed to be promoted beyond the first division, if they win the league they forfeit the promotion spot for 2nd/3rd.

The main thing is it’s competitive football for our youth players and a great trial with possibilities at the end of it. I’m actually grateful that the Lowland league have allowed us this opportunity, something both the SFA and SPFL couldn’t do. They both should be ashamed the mockery of youth football in this country. How do you nurture youth if you don’t give them anything to play for.

@Noskeil spot on that, I hope our fans turn out to give the league a boost so it’s an attractive prospect going forward.

Defo can appreciate it being a trial then, but overall for this to be worthwhile to the club, we need them in the full SPFL setup.
Not sure Div1 would be high enough either, but it certainly would be better than the nothing we have currently.

True, the youth structure was a joke before covid and that virtually killed it. Strange thing is this will benefit clubs throughout the divisions as not all players at youth level make it through, in fact we we are lucky if 2% make it at our club, the rest move down the divisions or disappear, there will be more chance of them getting decent clubs with actual game experience, most youths leave for free anyway. Not to mention that young Scottish lads will be available for the national teams

Really like yogi, he really seems passionate about coaching players to get better etc. Just because he was limited as a player seems to limit his manager roles. I reckon he would be fantastic for our youth set up.

Always surprises me he doesn’t get a chance. His stint at County shows he’s more than good enough at this level and he’s never mentioned. He plays football properly and develops youth well. I don’t get it.

Agreed. It would be great news if Yogi was put in charge of the team. Plus it would be great to see him back at Celtic.
