And? They beat everyone in front of them and won.

The farmer's league * is cringeworthy.

If it's genuinely going to take 2 - 3 weeks before we can appoint him then that's it over imo, we might appeal but I think we'll be looking elsewhere now.

We desperately need a manager in before we return to training, which I think is the 16th? but ideally we need a manager in weeks before that so he can start preparations.

Yes we are but considering the dogshit quality of our national squad, it's impressive haha.

If Celtic is as big of a club as I think it is, I would expect Ange to smoke the SPL but the main issues coming in the European competitions.

Should definitely be Strachan; it can't be anyone that isn't Scottish.

Only a Scotsman knows Scottish football.

I sure hope the national team know that they're playing football at the Euros instead of Scottish football; wouldn't want them running out on the pitch and looking like idiots.

How the board can countenance considering someone who isn't Scottish is beyond me. Everyone I know in football circles talks about getting in Scottish coaches etc, so they can implement the Scottish football system, the envy of the football world.

Interesting perspective, although to compare Aussie nationalism with American is like comparing shandy with super lager.

Australia definitely punches above its weight in football but opportunities in the best leagues are limited due to matters such as work permits (and now the flavour of your pro-*-licence). Not to mention quality also, but perceptions of quality frequently tend (from our perspective) to be filtered through an Australian-so-must-be-* lens. Plenty of that in this very thread.

So there's a strong desire to see Australians have success in those leagues so the filter will be weakened and more will get a chance. Yes, there is perhaps an overabundance of enthusiasm...but Ange deserves it. He is definitely the real deal.

No Australian coach has been given a chance in a big league with a well resourced team. So this is exciting and may open the door for other excellent coaches in Oz - there are a few.

Scotland are the experts in glorious failure it counts for nothing when you fail anyway. Pep would not win the Europa or Champions League with Celtic so Ange definitely wont be doing that it's laughable

I think he's a good manager Gordon Strachan. Intelligent. Give him the job, Maloney as coach the two of them would be good.

I wonder if the board regret declaring we were in 'advanced talks' with a guy who isn't qualified :giggle1:

As others have stated, this is like breaking the glass ceiling for Australian football. Ange does deserve to be there but its so hard for Aussies to get into Europe or the Uk now, somehow harder than it is for African and other Asian players of the same quality.

I don't doubt Ange would be there but it's not bias or nationalistic (that doesn't even exist in Australia) there are also people who equally hate Ange. There are alot of Brisbane supporters who hate him for walking out to go to a bigger club in Melbourne when he was claiming he'd build a dynasty in brisbane. (He should be able to claim the next league title as his as it was his team and his game plan) some at Melbourne were disappointed as we were just building when he took on the national team, then ALOT of people hated him for the way the Australian team played. They are just clearly not vocal here.

On a seperate note i wouldn't blame celtic for moving on if UEFA are going to take too long, but they shouldve had this stuff sorted while they were still dealing with Howe, just in case.

I think they are still getting over their regret of having appointed 'qualified' (licensed) Neil Lennon.
