Our entire scouting system seems to be non existent since Park left. When he was here I got the impression we really knew what we were doing when it came to recruitment. * hour now.

Congerton ripped it to shreds. The database systems we had operating under Park and the Scouts. All gone.

I know this is * naive on my part, but scouting.

How hard is it really, is it that * hard to set up a network across countries that wouldn't be to difficult to sign players i.e work permits?

For the cost of staff surely it would still pay off in the long run if we could churn out regular £6mill sales on a single player every season?

For me, it’s a specialist area that would require investment.

The thing is when you buy a player these days you’re making a huge investment on a high risk, volatile asset.

To get the right targets you need a proper network of experienced professionals.

To give you a for instance, if you look at Shved, you really need someone with contacts in Ukraine that can give you the details on his personality, his ambitions etc. Someone who can pick up a phone and speak to people that know him from youth football and tell you what he’s like.

If you do that, you save £3m or whatever it was and you can spend it elsewhere.

Likewise, in Eastern Europe there’s obviously excellent players coming out, but you need someone who knows where to look and when to make a move on a player. That’s where your network comes in.

We should also have established relationships with the top academies and richest clubs. At the end of the day, the likes of Chelsea and PSG have amazing talent on their books that aren’t quite good enough for the top level.

They are quality players that are guaranteed to do well in football. They end up moving these players on and we should be one of the clubs in for the top talent coming out, but you need people establishing relationships with these clubs to get yourself in the conversation for these players at an early stage.

That all plays into having top coaching at the club so a player that has fallen short of top level at 20 years old (say, Edouard) can come here and get top tier coaching for 2-3 years then get to the top level again.

Bringing in Edouard and then giving him 2 years of Lennedy is a waste of money.

It’s something the club should be investing in. Even from a cynical point of view it’s a great way to make money.

thats what an epl side would have no chance we would have that with the money we operate under

our board are tight arses and it suits them for us to continue with a manager and a couple of coaching staff and a physio

how much would all that cost ??? not much if you had a big tv deal or great prize money which we dont so its all funded from the little tv money, prize money, ticket sales and sponsorship

wed need a much bigger tv deal even something like the norwegians get

I'll need to check that out.

Is this back to the park era and when Peter Houston (Dundee United lad) was once involved? I mind he spoke highly about the old setup. Never knew it was that wide spread though

Defo doesn't look or feel remotely near that these days

It was after mate. It’s the scout who went after Moussa extensively who breaks it down.

Bit too quiet on this for my liking.

All we have heard is about Harkin but noone from celtic or source has actually indicated that we are actually going for a DOF? People are just assuming so are they not?

We've left it too late anyway for this season. I'm pretty much resigned to a serious mishmash of a season.

Irishman Fergal Harkin will not be leaving his role as Football Partnerships and Pathways Manager at Manchester City to take up a role as Celtic's Director of Football.

The 44-year-old from Donegal has been linked strongly with the position while the Celtic hierarchy waited patiently on a decision on the manager's job that was Eddie Howe's until he dramatically pulled out because he could not secure his desired backroom team.

But we understand that Harkin's loyalty to City Football Group remains steadfast and he is continuing in his role as Football Partnerships and Pathways Manager in which he is held in high esteem by the Manchester City hierarchy.

While conversations have taken place between Celtic and Harkin, the Director of Football job was not offered to him and he is not seeking a move from the Premier League champions at this time.

Harkin’s impressive credentials at City, where he focuses on developing their young players primarily by getting them experience with other clubs, have made other clubs take notice.

A former League of Ireland player with Finn Harps and Bohemians, he first came to England to work with former Celtic manager Martin O'Neill while he was in charge of Leicester City.

It's difficult to see what's actually going on at Celtic right now.

To me, it looks like no one wants to touch us. I can only assume that's because of Lawwell and now McKay.

It seems to be a * riot. I would bin McKay right now before it's too late.
