It’s a heavily overrated league where none of the best players in the world outside of Man City play.

A league where Oli McBurnie and Rhian Brewster are £20 million strikers. An overrated bubble of inflated silly money that is due to go pop.

He was terrible. Would have took him off before Greenwood, at least Greenwood is better in front of goal. Didn't see Rashford beat his man all night. Fernandes was pants too.

I'm gonna give an unpopular opinion here..

Bruno Fernandes is a good player but very overrated for me..

No only that but he's a diving, moaning wee ray who's never out the ref's ear..

Would agree. Quality from set pieces but goes missing in games. And yes, he's forever complaining when he gets subbed or moaning at ref/ team mates. There's one in every * team, they shout the loudest at others to deflect blame.

Agreed. Very good player but not elite.

Can’t argue with his goal return (albeit half of them are penalties), but his all round play leaves a lot to be desired.

Guys like De Bruyne and Thiago are a level above.

His numbers are great but he is overrated of course. Just not my type of player, give me De Bruyne over him any day. Incredibly sloppy on the ball at times. I said it a while back but Christie is like a really really * Bruno Fernandes. Constantly giving the ball away and so uneasy on the eye but productive due to how many times they try it

I have a soft spot for Villarreal - great support. I love that all yellow kit, as well. I am glad that they won.

BT Sports coverage was a disgrace I thought

From Robbie Savage predicting penalty misses for Villareal to Paul Scholes making it out as if United were playing the Spanish equivalent of Watford. I thought United would have a bit too much for Villareal in the end but I knew they would make a game of it - they were making it out as if United just had to turn up and they'd walk it. Always nice to see these PL elitists get put in their place.

    Basically United’s Christie.

Yet to see him put in a good performance against one of the big sides. United’s record against the top 6 with him in the team speaks volumes imo.

Still find it baffling how Van de Beek canny get in that team :giggle1:

...Hardly. Give me Alloa or Forfar beating Man United and then we'll talk. But a team who are in a league position in Spain that qualifies for European football and who have been in the Spanish top flight for as long as I can remember? I think thats pretty disrespectful to them and to Spanish football. If someone like Crystal Palace beat Man U in the league Jake Humphries wouldn't be dishing out 'David vs Goliath' I can tell you that right now.

It was Villareal’s first ever trophy. Not first ever European. Their first ever.

And a random league game is much less meaningful than a European Final.

And the English wonder why every * wants them to get beat. Savage, despite being Welsh has bought into the "EPL is Everything and everything else is nothing". So involved, that he forgot who his beloved Leicester City beat to win the FA Cup.

A couple of things from last night. McTominay for me was comfortably the best Man United player on the field, although Albiol and Pau Torres were crucial to Villarreal. McTominay was at the heart of everything good that Man United done.

For me, although Solskjaer has done pretty well domestically. I don't think he's the man to take them on the next step. First off, I think Emery and Villarreal surprised them by how they set up. Emery mentioned post-match how he and his staff watched 17 of Man United games from this season, in different competitions and scenarios. Solskajer has been very successful when they transition from winning the ball and attacking unorganised opponents. Space and Pace to attack. They got very little of that last night and never adjusted. He had enough quality on the field to find a solution for it last night, but they were slow in possession and while they had 4 or 5 up against the Villarreal defence, there was a stark lack of movement and positional rotation.

They don't have enough depth of quality in their side either to take the next step. A different manager might get a bit more from these players. But to reach the next level in domestic and European football, they won't get there with Bailly, Matic and a few others.

Emery was ridiculed for his time at Arsenal, but he had Man United sussed out last night. A team effort, hard work and also a bit of quality. I've watched Villarreal a fair few times and they don't play like that often, even against Real and Barcelona. Was a bit worried for them because they were a fairly sloppy in possession and in turn increased the pressure.
