The fawning over McIlroy winning this weekend :42:

I just cannot take to the guy at all, his voice irritates the * outta me too. Very irrational on my part.

Of course I love him around Ryder Cup time though

Never liked him either mate. He annoyed me last week as well talking about players joining a golf "Super League". Saying that you should be trying to make a legacy but if all you want to do is make as much money as possible then by all means join the Super League. He was right with what he was saying, but this is a guy who went chasing money when he went to Nike. Had he stayed where he was, I've no doubt he would have a lot more major wins than he currently does.

What has Nike sponsorship got to do with his career trajectory? Genuinely don’t know the back story there.

He looked capable of completely dominating golf when he was with Titelist, but then the money got the better of him and when he was offered more, he dropped Titelist and went to Nike, his game fell apart and he took some time to recover, and has never quite reached the level he should have. Now he is preaching that players should be trying to make a legacy and not chase money. He is 100% correct, but coming from him, it is hypocritical in my opinion.

That might have played a part. Either way, McIlroy is not the right person to be having a pop at guys for chasing money, when he has done exactly that.

I don’t think he’s having a pop at them really and besides McIlroy’s money chasing didn’t have an effect on the integrity of the game. If he is coming from a moral standpoint it is a bit rich alright.. excuse the pun.

I think his downturn came when the hunger went which is a collateral consequence of having 150 million in the bank.

Similar to an another Irishman with the same problem, McGregor.

It was the words he used though when asked about it. He basically said that golf should only be about winning trophies and creating a legacy. If that was the case, why would you change your clubs when you are at the top of your game and winning majors? We all know why, and it was purely down to money.

Agreed yeah but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with doing what he did to set himself up financially, whether it effected his game badly or not.

Have to say, Rory McIlroy’s not at the top of my list of sportsmen to dislike. I’ve always thought he seemed ok.
Great to watch when he’s playing well.

Went all Hollywood, forgets he's from Holywood.

Just like his desperate wannabe American * pal MacDowell. Now there is a * of the first order.

There is nothing wrong with it. If you are in the game to purely make as much money as possible, instead of creating a legacy then he done the right thing. Don't call people out if they are going to do the same thing though, because it just made him look silly in my opinion.

McDowell is a *. No arguments there. Absolutely loves himself and the sound of his fake American accent.

If it's fake American accents you are after, look no further than Russell Knox. Never understand how folk develop an accent when they have spent the first 20 or so years of their life living somewhere else. What a riddy.

Boy I went to school with is the Head Superintendent at the Valspar courses, where the tour was the other week, his yank twang is unreal. He did move over at 18 mind and has been there more than he has lived here now. Still no right though :56:
