Indeed - Ronny Deila announced that he was leaving on Wed April 20 - Brendan Rodgers was appointed just over 4 weeks later on Friday 20 May. It seems as if it will take at least 3 times as long to appoint a manager this time - great work especially as the team is a total shambles that requires a complete overhaul.

 

I agree that they shouldn't talk about teams that still have important matches to play and I think Eddie Howe has too much class to throw a curve ball into Bournemouth's preparations.

I'd be amazed if Howe wasn't keen on bringing someone from the coaching staff to Celtic and probably at least 1 player.

That's the worry - the best case scenario (from a Celtic perspective) is if Bournemouth get knocked out in the semis - even then it would be May 23 before any of their players/coaches could be approached.

If they reach the Final - that becomes May 29 and, if they get promoted and offer the relevant players or coaches new deals, it's pretty unlikely they'll leave the EPL to come to Celtic.

Even if these players come to Celtic - they'll need some time off so you're probably talking mid or late June before Howe, his coaching team and any players he brings from Bournemouth are in place.

To be honest, I would be delighted if we end up with Eddie Howe, his preferred coaching team and Lawwell, Kennedy, Strachan gone.

However, even then, given the time frames and state of the team - I expect our European campaign to be a short one (again) and at least 2 transfer windows to get the squad that Howe wants in place.

I suspect this is nonsense. Do you think the club would have released a statement yesterday if we were that close to making an appointment?

If we do announce Howe next week the delay will not have been back room staff or anything like that it will have been a clause in his Bournemouth contract that will have run to the end of the league season, which is this weekend. Yes there are the play offs but these may not have been included.

I do suspect that Howe wants people from Bournemouth and them moving may depend on how the playoffs go, however I doubt if Celtic are letting him pick his staff that if those guys don’t come because they are back in the EPL, then surely that can’t mean Howe won’t take the job, his credibility would be shot.

Howe is still all speculation and rumours. However things must be happening behind the scenes as a number of players have been moved on, players loan contracts being terminated or loan players being told they won't be coming back. As we are a PLC I cannot see the board not doing anything no matter how inept they are. They have shareholders to satisfy, if they haven't acted to fill the managers role then it will simply be gross negligence.
