Agree with you there. He has basically missed almost all of the season and that certainly IMHO has been a contributing factor in how poor we have been at the back. Would be very happy if Jullien and Ajer were our 2 starting centre backs next season.

 

That's quite a while out. Qualifiers are going to be a struggle unless we recruit well.

 

If he’s rumoured to want away and theirs a decent offer on table you sell he’s not getting younger and older he gets his value will depreciate

We've had better defenders, but he is one of the only two good ones at the club currently.

When he signed, it was for decent money and at a decent age that proved his worth to sign and experience.
He wasn't signed as a project, or one to make money on. Something we need to at times stop doing with every signing.
He's the sort that we signed to walk straight in to the team and make it better, one to have for a few years.
Ideally he signs another contract and we then sell/release at 32/33 when he's done a great job for us.

I will be honest I don’t think we would miss him if he is sold. If we get anything near to the reported 7 million we paid for him that would be fantastic.

To be fair, I’d give him the benefit of the doubt here in that he’s talking about his own difficulties with his injury and trying to keep his spirits up rather than playing down the team’s failures this season.

 

If a good offer comes in id probably punt, he is way to injury prone, on his day is a good defender but we hardly see him.

 

The only reason I'd be against this is because we're short of numbers as it is, when Ajer leaves. Duffy and Hendry will be out the door too.

 

He has done very little to endear himself to me. I wouldn’t miss him.

 

Logically you are right, but more my point was he is out loads with injury, if an offer came we could theoretically use that money and get someone more reliable in.

We MUST be looking for another 2 CBs as we stand currently, regardless of any sort of transfer dealings.
If we manage to get 2 in, and Ajer leaves, then we should be still okay for the qualifiers and early season, considering Julien will miss it all.
But if he was to leave as well, then we need to make sure he then gets replaced as well, otherwise going in to the season properly with only 2 recognised CBs is going to be the same old * we have done since Van Djik left.

Assuming Ajer is sold and given Jullien status then yes we need to sign for sure 3 centre backs and 2 of them have to be players expected to be able to come right in and be starters not projects or gambles.
