I agree. Why would he be desperate to bring in Keane, who would absolutely demand to be in full control despite having done next to little in the game and not give a more modern, progressive proven coach like Howe full control. Don't get that thinking.

If he's even contemplating Crystal Palace, Brighton, Southampton or Newcastle then he should be told we're ending negotiations and gtf.

McKay should parade new man, honestly don't think we'll see anything until then.

I'm a big fan of Howe.

But there are 2 major red flags for me.

    1. As has been said by others, he most certainly should not be picking our DOF. It's not clear if this is indeed the case, but if he's insisting on it, then we'll have to look elsewhere.
    2. If he's hedging his bets with lower EPL dross like Palace, Newcastle etc. then I'm not sure his heart is really in it. We need full unequivocal commitment.

Yeah I've been suspecting for a wee while now the stumbling block is him wanting his pick for DoF, it's not about the backroom staff. If that is the case it's a non starter. We can't afford to have a DoF that is likely to * off with the manager when they leave, that defeats the purpose of having a DoF for that continuity between manager appointments. We need to move on to other targets if he is insisting on that.

    Mental thing to say.

He’s not going to come here unless he’s happy with his backroom staff, people above him etc.

Wouldn’t expect anything else. In fact, if someone was just delighted to come here and work with whoever the club decide, I’d be worried about how good they are.

I would be happier if he took his time weighing things up. At least it would make him seem more committed, not rushing in to things. If he doesn't feel he's the right man for the job or the job is right for him then we move on.

Because we need things in place ASAP. If not now then at least ready for the beginning of preseason.

if he is, indeed, stalling us with one eye on potential EPL offers then we need to move on, get the ball rolling. We could be back to square one in the summer if we wait and he turns us down for some mid table or relegation fodder EPL club. With his agents recent comments to sky it would appear like this maybe the case.

Its not really a mental thing to say at all. That post doesn't mention anything about backroom staff etc. Only if he is contemplating other possible offers. If he is stalling us in the hope that these offers transpire then we do need to move on.

Palace are wanting Lampard according to Duncan Castles. I'm pretty sure he is full of * though

Its all done and we're trying to see who the leak is by gradually telling 1 person at a time. Eventually it'll get to the leak and then we have him.

I believe one of the stumbling blocks is that Desmond has already promised his wee pal Fergal Harkin the Director of Football position, they may have already shaken on it and perhaps there could even be something in writing. Howe has said he wants his own people and Harkin is not one of them. Desmond is going to have accept the difficult task of now going to Harkin and telling him he doesnt have the job after all, this is something Desmond will not want to do, he may even point blank refuse to do this.

If the deal for Eddie Howe falls through because Desmond is too proud to now effectively sack Harkin before he has even started then it would be disgusting, this is being horrendously mis-managed already. Why is he prematurely appointing Directors of Football when we all know top quality managers want their own people.

Because no manager, no matter his ability level, should be coming in and demanding who HIS boss is.

I'm all in agreement that Harkin is more than obviously a pals act of a job - albeit one with a bit of merit as well.
But you simply don't just hand out jobs because Howe asked for it. Specially not his boss.
Specially not when it is highly likely that any system and structural change we are trying to implement would he hampered and likely stalled due to basically doing what we done with Rodgers again.

I'm all for and wanting Howe in, and he should be allowed to bring a couple of his own staff in as well, such as his own assistant manager, a specialised position in coaching or a familiar and trusted high end scout.
But not his own boss, nor an entire teams worth of staff that will likely leave the day he does as well.

By this time next week, we should know who the main man is, and what the set up is.

If not, can assume that plan A has failed and we're looking at other options. ST renewals forms will be out the week after. More important our preseason planning and preparation for euro qualifying will be on top of us also.

There's no reason Harkin and Hughes can't work together either. Hughes was head of recruitment, whilst Harkin was head of pathways (youths.) A massive restructuring of the field required that will not be done quickly. So there is room for both, whilst Harkin may he a longer term plan.

Personally fed up with it all now. Feel the board have ripped the pish out of us for far too long now. Need a decision or risk further detachment from the fans pronto.

Pretty much how I see it.

Ultimately we need to draw a line in the sand somewhere. It’s either acceptable for us for Howe to bring in his mate as DoF, or it isn’t. If it isn’t, you put a final offer on the table for Howe and give him a deadline to accept/reject.

None of this is rocket science. People will say that time isn’t hugely i important because of where we are in the season, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the board had put all their eggs in one basket, and were left going back to square one if Howe turns us down.
