TalkSPORT were speaking to Stan Petrov about Howe to Celtic this morning. Makes it a bit more real to hear it discussed. Even said may hear today, realise that’s likely to just get people to listen to them, but already got my hopes up

Get a new manager in now! Focus on winning the Scottish Cup & plenty time to prepate for next season?
    Naw, no Celtic!

According to the Athletic a few weeks back, we also approached O'Neill and Strachan in November about taking over for the remainder of the season but both refused

So you think he will be convinced when he finds a Dublin/Channel Islands run plutocracy that banks using the equivalent of a digital biscuit tin and only appoints managers while they are dripping wet in the scud?

Everything after, right up until now would suggest that's not true. You're giving the board far more credit than they deserve. I would suggest the Athletic kno * all as well.

To be fair, the squad turnover in the summer is going to be massive. You'd be coming in to work with a group of guys for 6/8 weeks only to lose about 40% of them ahead of next season

I fully take on board the short turn around time ahead of the CL qualifiers but I can see why a new manager may only take over in the summer

I would suggest the Athletic have probably the best connected group of journos in the industry, hands down.

I've no doubt we panicked Nov/Dec time, made a few enquiries, found no viable options and stuck with oor Neil. The talk at the time was that they refused due their close relationships with NL.

Sounds bad to me. If he wants a set up in place then he should stipulate it or do it himself when he gets in the building. Then again I doubt there's any truth in the story so it's a moot point.

My mistake, by papers I really mean the media in general.

With the benefit of hindsight I doubt there were any enquiries made at all. Our board might release rumours that they were doing something but the truth is they’re completely negligent and incompetent.

I reckon Lawwell was 100% sure the huns would collapse and the super magical Dubai trip would solve all our problems. The guy is that stupid and that arrogant.

Always remember Lawwell’s one key skill is manipulating the media and the Celtic support. At a time when any responsible CEO would genuinely be looking for a replacement manager, Lawwell would’ve instead been looking at ways to release stories to cover his back.

Not for me, I think they backed Lennon completely until it was far too late and that was much later than Nov.

Perhaps. There was no rhyme or reason to stand by him after the second Sparta hammering and the LC exit. I do believe we considered replacing him at that point but couldn't find a viable immediate alternative (in the Board's opinion).

Howe doing his due diligence this morning

Howe: Hey Brendan I'm going to take the Celtic job, Lawell says I can have full control of transfers and bring my own staff in.

BR: Hahahahaha good one Eddie, that's the best April Fool I've heard yet.

Howe: Oh yeah...April Fool, yeah course.....

There must be some element of truth in the Howe rumours as we have been getting all the negative stories from ex players who played under him etc. and Simon Jordan saying that Howe lacks the "wow factor" etc.

Simon Jordan and his opinions are about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit.

If Eddie Howe was linked with the Palace job he'd be creaming himself. But because it's Celtic, Eddie Howe isn't "wow" enough.
