Here is a novel twist on proposals for Celtic and Rangers to join the English league system:

I guess that France and Scotland have a close history with the Auld Alliance. They were close to a full union under François II of France and Mary, Queen of Scots. Indeed, the two nations had (and arguably still have) reciprocal dual nationality agreements.

Those links are good enough for me. Bring on Paris Saint-Germain! :giggle1:

France is far too "feniany" for the staunchness of the Queens 11.

Let's leave them here and we can go over alone.

In a way this makes loads more sense than moving to the English leagues. It would be much more beneficial to all teams, we'd be able to compete from the get go. The league would get a huge boost in profile.

In another way, it's absolutely bonkers though

Ita an insult to any nation in Europe to form an elite group, the EU should get involved and Sanction Uefa, the clubs are after all private businesses and are basically excluding trade regulations! although I could live with it if they included a clause saying that each team should have won their home league at least 5 times!!

Tbh if Celtic were to move leagues, I've always wondered why our ambitions are limited to the EPL.

If I had the choice I'd like to move to La Liga or the Bundesleiga.

    The Huns can * off.

I'd imagine the reasoning was always "logical" that under the disguise as a "british" league and all the grey areas that could muddle up - ie look at the Welsh teams.

But certainly the progress with the Belgium and Dutch leagues are making in regards to a merge is starting to make things different. Not sure if France is a logical or sensible option, brexit aside.
But certainly should open up at least a wider proposal of a Scandinavian or North Atlantic league which we should be involved in and would arguably be one of the bigger clubs in said league.

If we were to move leagues I’d like to see a Nordic league with Scotland included.

Hope it never happens but if it was then Celtic should demand that the scum admit they are a new club and publicly admit that the players and management of the old club deliberately cheated the taxman and that anything they "won" during that period, should be stricken from the record and that for the league to allow the scum into their system, the new club pay restitution IN FULL UP FRONT to ALL the clubs that lost out on European places and league spots as well as SC and SLC spots due to their cheating.
If they refuse to do that then Celtic will either stay in Scotland whilst huns * off OR Celtic resign from Scottish football to join that league with stipulation that the scum will NEVER be allowed to join and huns stay in Scotland.

Would this be the first time a club only 9 years old made it to Ligue 1?

I think that we should have thrown in our lot in with the Belgian and Dutch, but, as you note, Brexit may make such a move impossible.

I do think that cross-border leagues are inevitable, and that we will start to see them appear by the middle of the decade.

Celtic needs to be prepared for that eventuality because the Club will be devastated financially if and when the revenue from UEFA club competitions dries up.

The élite clubs in England will likely join a European super league in the near future, and the appeal, in terms of the strength of the clubs involved, of any British league will likely be greatly diminished. People are always going to view a British league without the top-six clubs in England as a second-rate competition.

A Nordic league is an interesting option, but Celtic and Rangers would still be the biggest clubs in the competition by some distance, and I believe that Nordics on the whole tend to be more interested in the Premier League, for example, than their domestic leagues.

The Ligue 1 proposal - while it is a bit whacky - actually makes sense, on paper, for all the parties concerned, but I think that Scottish clubs are much more likely to join a cross-border league with clubs from smaller nations. A Nordic league system, for example, could include all of Scotland's senior clubs, which, I think, would make the move more palatable to supporters.
