Steve Clarke has shrugged off speculation linking him with Celtic, insisting he’s fully focused on leading Scotland out at the Euros – and beyond.

The national boss is one of the bookies’ favourites to succeed Neil Lennon – just three months before
the nation’s first major tournament in 23 years.

And Clarke was put on the spot after taking part in a Q&A by youngsters at Edinburgh-based club Team United, which supports young people with autism.

Asked if he was joining the Hoops after Euro 2020, the 57-year-old said: “I will be going on a long holiday after the Euros.

“And I am contracted with Scotland until 2022, when I’ll hopefully be taking us to the World Cup in Qatar.”

Clarke insisted there was no club job in football that could tempt him to quit Scotland after leading his team to history with a play-off final win in Belgrade last November.

Absolutely - I don't want a rushed appointment but we don't have time to waste either. If (and with our board it's a big if) we have a list of targets in order of preference - as soon as one genuinely rules himself out (before or after speaking to the club), they should be crossed off the list and we move on.

 

Just hire someone already, longer this takes, the worse any detachment gets between fans and the club

 

I don't disagree but I have 2 concerns, a lot of people will not renew if they think that Kennedy is in with a shout - the board may only get an accurate idea of ST revenue (which will effect expenditure) in June.

If it is to be at the end of the season - we need someone to be ready to go. There is a job of work to be done - IMO, we'll not be able to sort everything out in one transfer window but we need a new manager/coach to bring in players that will be central to their vision asap.

 

You've got a good point. Can always announce it with him taking over after the season. However as soon as its announced we can actually go back to watching football in the stands then the renewals will flood in.

 

Roy Keane would be box office in the sense it’d be a spectacular disaster.

 

Webb and howe it will be ! Webb speaking about what celtics ambition is on the podcast makes me think there has been contact already !

 

What is the deal with Webb, why is he getting about all these different celtic podcasts and *.

I can't imagine if he was on the cusp of gaining employment with us, he'd be allowed to be saying all sorts of things to different podcast hosts?

 

On the other hand maybe he’s tryna get the feel good factors in already and spread his philosophy’s etc.

If it were the case I'd imagine the club would be getting him to do it on a formal basis as an employee not just some random going about hyping things.
