Some appointments are riskier than others...

His Killie team constantly punched above their weight. His more defensive nature would suggest we'd do better in Europe than this season, which is a low bar.

Would he be able to adapt to be a more aggressively attacking team domestically? That's my only issue with Clarke.

That’s my dilemma. No doubt we would improve in Europe under Clarke but I am underwhelmed by the thought of watching a Steve Clarke team week in week out in the SPFL. I don’t know if he’s got the attacking style in him. Everything he does seems to be very rigid and structured.

After much soul searching....it's Clarke for me.

Just feel we need a period of stability and someone who knows tactics. We will always be in the position to sign good players. A good tactician and man manager will win us the league again.

A bit like comfort * after a bad break up.

Think it will be a Head Coach type, i.e. not an established manager, a promising coach - like Maloney/Maresca or Damien Duff i saw mentioned as well, maybe more likely - with that Fergal Harkin as DoF

The Steve Clarke one is interesting for me.

No doubt we would improve defensively under him, I just wonder if he would mix up his usual defensive style a bit domestically as he's never managed a team who are title contenders before with the best players in the league and who would have the majority of possession in almost all their matches.

Might encourage him to be a bit braver with tactics...

I would take Clarke in a heartbeat, however did he not distance himself from the job prior to Lenny's appointment due to being targeted by the Huns with their bile abuse for being a Roman Catholic :39:

Dan Petrescu and David Wagner have told Celtic they are interested according to Stephen McGowan.

I’m warming to the idea of Clarke too. Maybe not my first choice but I think he would bring something that we have not had for so long in Europe. Set up well and very hard to beat, not the prettiest football but I would take that if it meant CL qualification, not 6/7 goals going past us in 1 game or getting beat of nobody’s from Romania etc. Also could take us further than the EL last 32 I think...which shoulda been the bare minimum in Europe last few years.

Wagner, his Shalke team went 16 games without a win. I imagine no Bundesliga club would touch him with a barge pole so he's looking for whatever he can get.

We need a DoF in pronto and then a new coach totally focused on the a sizable rebuild..

Clarke isn't an option, the timing is wrong, we can't afford to wait until after the Euros to get him in. He's focused on Scotland and rightly so first major tournament since 98 etc..

I like Clarke and think he could adapt well seems like a man on character and don't think he would do a 'Walter'.. And a find the notion that he would slightly arrogant.

    It's a non-starter for me.

    Clarke yes
    Maresca an unknown for me
Wagner? A no no. He was succesfull at Huddersfield. But with ugly football. Had a good series with Schalke and then totally collapsed after winterbreak. Team had potential for top 10 spot. But totally regressed under him! Got time for summer rebuild but his team even came out worse, no football, didnt create chances, defence was a shambles. Absolute nightmare option for me.

I have my doubts Clarke would take the manager's role here, which is why I mentioned him for the DoF job. I won't bother putting up why I think he won't take it, as it just sounds like the usual ITK pish, plus it's based on information that is a couple of years out of date, so Clarke's views may well have changed in that time.

In other words I don't know, but it is my suspicion that it is still the case.

And his football was dreadfull. Team with Nubel, Kabak, Nastasic, Sane, mckennie in defence and still they conceded many goals. Attacking was even worse lol
