Talking to my son in the car there on this very point, it literally gave me the fear.

The rebuild is as big as any I remember.

Who do I think (first team regulars) will be there next season from this bunch?

Honestly, we need about 12 out the door and the same in, with at least 6 of those being defenders, and we need to stop settling for using midfielders as CBs (even as backup). Dinosaur stuff.
The same thing has ruined Liverpool’s season as well.

 

I think we should look at signing Kasper Junker to replace Eddie

 

Where do you start ?

This is why a new manager should have been in a long time ago. Not like our board to be extremely short sighted.

 

Biggest rebuild in over a decade. I expect several exits to add to the few we've already witnessed in January. Starters such as Edouard, Christie, Ajer, Elyounoussi, Laxalt and Duffy will all likely be gone. There are question marks over the likes of Taylor, Barkas, Ajeti and Klimala and whether they'll ever be the required standard. Then there's the problem of the manager and the captain both not being good enough any more. We better pray that Johnston has a breakout season next year and that Forrest has a return to form, otherwise the situation looks even more grim. There's also no guarantee McGregor won't be tempted away. It's a headache just thinking about it.

 

Would be surprised if Rogic was not sold this summer as well. Personally if buyers could be found I would sell Barkas and Klimala as well.

It is scary, we are facing losing anywhere from 15-21 players if you include the two that went in January and young boys.

Barkas, Elhamed, Frimpong, Kenny, Ajer, Hendry, Duffy, Laxalt, Bolingoli, Brown, Bitton, Christie, Ntcham, Elyounoussi, Rogic, Shved, Edouard, Bayo, Harper, and Dembele.

Only leaves Bain, Hazard, Ralston, Welsh, a crocked Julien, Taylor, Soro, Robertson, Connell, Shaw, McGregor, Turnbull, Forrest, Johnston, Griffiths, Ajeti and Klimala. Being honest I would happily lose two of those three striker options as well.

We need GK, RBx2, CBx3, LB, Physical box to box CM, AM(to provide competition for Turnbull), RW, LW and STx2 (at least). That’s also relying on either Robertson or Connell stepping up to play some games at CM and the new signing Shaw doing the same at DM.

Of the last nine transfer windows we have signed 36 players (some twice on loan or loan then permanent). Made up of 22 permanents and 14 loan deals. Arguably only Ntcham, Edouard (twice as a loan and perm), Julien, Frimpong, Forster (on loan), Soro and Turnbull have actually had a proper first team impact of any length.

Hayes done ok as a utility squad player and Benkovic looked good to start with but injuries hampered him. Weah was another who started brightly but faded badly and Moi twice has threatened to be great at times but injury the first time and inconsistency the second have put him in the ok camp.

So 15 out of 22 permanents and 7 loan deals from 14 have been flops or failed to make an impact on the first team so far, with arguably only 6 permanents and 2 loans being successful or looking like they will be. That is a truly shocking transfer record no wonder we are in such a mess.

Ajer, Edouard etc. will all be away and Jullien our injured.

I can only see McGregor and Turnbull being good enough to start every week. Soro as well potentially.

So that leaves you needing 8-9 players for the first team never mind the bench.

 

I won't be angry at the new CEO or manager (unless it is Lennon) next season if we don't win the league. The rebuild job is so huge it's unbelievable. Years of ignoring the defence and wings.
Hopefully money from Ajer, Eddy and Christie along with the Frimpong money will allow us to cover some players this summer. I'm hoping we can get a couple of million back for Barkas but even McGregor could end up going. I can see our squad filled with loans next season, hopefully the option to buy some the following summer. I also expect a few from our own league to fill gaps.
