Sad news indeed, brought us Lubo!
Left field appointment, but it was something different and he had a calibre about him as well.

    RIP Doc

Jozef Vengloš - the greatest personality of Slovak football - died on Tuesday evening at the age of 85.

As a coach, he won a gold medal with the Czechoslovak team at the 1976 European Championships in Belgrade and a bronze medal at the 1980 European Championships in Italy, in 1972 he was European champion with a team under 23 years of age

As the very first coach outside the UK, he worked in the English club in the highest competition, in the 1990/1991 season he led Aston Villa.

Twice he became the champion of Czechoslovakia with Slovan, once the champion of Malaysia with FC Kuala Lumpur, he sat on the bench of Sporting Lisbon, Fenerbahce Istanbul, Celtic Glasgow and JEF Ichihara United. He was declared a football coach of the 20th century in Slovakia.

He led the world selection in charity matches six times, his partners were personalities such as Jupp Derwall, Bora Milutinovič, Carlos Alberto Parreira and Carlos Queiroz.

Between 1974 and 2010 he was absent from any of the world and European championships, most of the final tournaments he was a member or head of the technical commissions of the European Football Union (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA), he was the only Czechoslovak coach who represented the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic twice at the World Cup.

He led the national teams of five countries - Australia (already 33 years old), Czechoslovakia, Slovakia, Oman and Malaysia.

After the beginnings of football in his hometown (1951–1954), the Ružomberok native transferred to Slovan Bratislava at the age of adolescence and withstood strong competition in a white jersey for eleven years.

He was a junior representative, he played for the B-team of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, he was in the Czechoslovak team. Olympians, but his promising playing career was hampered by injuries.

It is from the period when he led the youth team at the famous tournament in Viareggio and as a captain went for the winning trophy, for which he received a kiss from the famous actress Sophie Loren, his nickname "Lolo" is translated.

In the British Isles, in addition to the nickname "Doctor Joe", he was given the adjective "gentleman".

His performance and actions earned him the UEFA Diamond Order of Merit and FIFA's highest Order of Merit.

He has lectured on football in 120 countries, from 1995 to 2013 he was president of the Alliance of European Football Coaches (AEFCA), and was subsequently elected its honorary president. He is a member of the Slovak Football Hall of Fame (SSSF).
