When you look at their careers since their first fight, which went the total opposite way, both men got what they deserved last night.

Poirier has put in some shift since then and become one of the top guys in the company.

McGregor went on to become the double champ then floated in and out.

When McGregor beat Alvarez in 2016, Poirier months before that got beat by Michael Johnson ffs. McGregor has fought 3 times since then, Poirier has fought 9 times. You put the work in and these are the results.

Interesting Dustin saying he doesn’t like fighting anymore. Never a good thing when that thought creeps in.

He’s just made life changing money, that can extinguish the flame pretty quickly. Especially for a guy who clearly thinks he’s getting beat up to feed his family as he does.

Good fight, as is the trilogy with McGregor.

Diaz would give both a war.

Is it just me who couldnt give a * about the Diaz trilogy? So many more better fights for Mcgregor v guys who actually fight semi regularly.

Given their previous 2 stand up wars probably, yeah.

Nah. I couldn’t either at this point but they’ll probably give him that next if he fights again.

Easy win for McGregor now, and they’ll hype Nate up as some sort of elite fighter again and make out McGregor is back etc.

I'll obviously watch it but id rather McGregor fight someone else. He beats Diaz again imo but diaz is hardly amazing. If McGregor is serious about making a come back he needs to start training hard and aiming to fight guys in the top 5/10.

Absolutely. The problem is he isn’t just a normal MMA fighter - he’s part of modern pop-culture.

As much as I think the money from the Mayweather fight ruined him, there’s an argument to be made that he just doesn’t have that top level fighter toughness.

He rarely comes through adversity and as dangerous as he can be early on, he doesn’t react well if his opponent doesn’t wilt under the first sign of pressure.

    True.

As I said above, he has been smart with his losses in the past - giving up his back to Díaz, for example. One could argue that it showed weakness, but McGregor will probably be glad of the decision to avoid a traumatic brain injury, further down the line.

He has come through some wars in the past, not least his second bout with Díaz, but there are certainly more resilient fighters.

The wealth has, perhaps inevitably, taken its toll on him as a sportsman, but I think that the writing was on the wall when he started arranging glamour fights, rather than facing off against the top contenders in the division(s).

Dont get me wrong ill watch it and it will probably be a good exciting fight but thats hardly a reason to make the fight because all Mcgregor fights are generally good to watch. Why not put on a fight against a more active fighter that means something in the division

He has actually opened as a 8/15 favourite haha.

I find it pretty tough to call but I’ll probably just bet the underdog by the time of the fight. Askren is an Olympian but he’s also a horrendous striker :56:

Having never seen Jake Paul fight I’m quite confident he’ll beat Askren comfortably.

I’d fancy Jeremy Beadle in a boxing match against Askren.
