Coincidentally I was wondering if we would recall him before this Dubai shambles. He's done well in his loan spell by all accounts.

 

CELTIC today recalled Scott Robertson from a successful loan spell at League One Gillingham.

And the teenage midfielder could go straight into the Hoops squad for Saturday’s Premiership game against Livingston amid the club’s nightmare Covid-19 issues, with a host of players still expected to be missing.

His return came too late for tonight’s game against Hibs.

Robertson, 19, joined Steve Evans’ Gills in September for what was expected to be a season-long loan and he impressed during 19 appearances, including Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Burton.

He made his one and only Celts first team appearance in the Europa League loss to Cluj in Romania in December, 2019.

Boss Neil Lennon has high hopes for Robertson who is under contract until 2023.




The youngster headed back north earlier today following a final training session with the Gills squad.

Manager Evans, a lifelong Celtic fan, told SunSport Online: “Celtic sent us a good player and I believe Scott’s going back to Glasgow an even better one.

“He’s been an absolute credit to Celtic and his family and we thank him very much for his professionalism and performances with us.


“I spoke to him at lunchtime to say Celtic were recalling him and he immediately thanked me and everyone else at Gillingham for his period here.


“Scott has gained great experience in League One. It’s a tough division and after a bit of time adjusting he grew in confidence. He has impressed us all.


I’m very grateful to Neil Lennon and Celtic for agreeing to send the boy down to Gillingham.

“We’ve looked after Scott as best we could and it was important for me that he returned to Scotland with the confidence and belief to kick on with the rest of his career.




It has been a pleasure for us to play a part in Scott’s development and he has the best wishes of everyone here for the future.

“I’d be delighted to see him break into the Celtic team.”

It’s understood Robertson had his last Covid-19 test prior to the Burton match.

Now it’s expected he’ll be tested tomorrow at Celtic and all things being well will immediately become part again of the first team squad.

 

Been really impressed with him any time he has played. Wouldn't mind seeing him and Henderson get some game time this season. I think a new manager coming in will seriously have a look at him.

He could still go back out later in the window, it does seem a sensible call just now

 

Should’ve took Steve Evans up with him whilst we’re at it..

 

Class young player, would give him a chance ahead of Christie in that diamond even when players are done isolating.

 

Great to see some positive words about the lad, by all acou ts he's had a superb impact down there and has earned a lot of respect. Would love to see him do well for us.

 

I hope he isn’t recalled for two maybe three games and left to do * all!

 

What a ridiculous decision that is.

 

Hopefully loan him to a higher standard of league after we use him as a sub for the next few games. He's got the talent.

 

He was in and out of the Gillingham side. I’d be surprised if he’s loan out to a team in a better league.
