So my mother got her DNA checked

She was 60% Irish, 40% Scottish

By default then, I’m sure I’m about the same - I.e. proper Scots / Irish Celtic man.

Only allowed to post in this thread if you are too.

When I done the family tree thing all but one strand went back to the old country. One great great great grandparent born in Lanark (couldn't get back any further) but everything else back to Ireland.

Just be aware that these commercial DNA tests can have discrepancies and aren’t totally accurate.

Family tree on my Mum’s side is Scottish as far back as I’ve seen it and Irish on my Dad’s side.

Born in and raised in Scotland

Da was from Carnlough County Antrim as was both his Parents

Mum was from Scotland but with English and Italian heritage.

I would imagine a lot of the diaspora will have a mixed heritage as culture and traditions change. Even the Mafia in America no longer have a Sicilian purity rule. It’s just no feasible as everyone mates with anyone now a days.

Ma wains maws English. That would probably make them more Saxon than anything else but a teach them to be proud of there Surname and Irish roots.

So my grandfather was born in Scotland to Irish parents, before they returned to Ireland, my parents where both Irish does that make me Scots /Irish or does it have to be in a dna test load of bollix
