If the board stays the same, no manager with a desire to be independent in his job will ever come. The board burned themselves on Rodgers.

I'm not sure that is entirely fair on some of the players though. Yeah some seem like they could maybe try harder to play themselves out of the club like you mention, but for many that might not be the immediate goal.

Seems like some are beyond the point of being able to trust Lennon now, and probably expected a managerial change already which might rescue the season. But with the inexplicable backing by the board, the players must be confused as to where things will end up.

    What's the point...?

Having a good manager with his hands tied behind his back.

A good manager turned these players into undefeated treble treble winners. Half the good managers have zero clue about who to sign. Rodgers wanted to spend £10m on that big donkey from aberdeen.

I get your point but I'm not so sure that was Rodgers target.

The issue is that most managers worth anything don't want to have their hands tied behind their backs. And they can't just avoid talking to the board, and focus only on the team.

Not to mention that this board won't spend big money on a manager again. A new board made of Celtic fans instead of businessmen, might.

Not to enjoy playing Devil’s advocate, but even though as admiral it may seem, I genuinely don’t think it would be a good idea having “fans” running the business side of the club...

I agree - for the first 2 seasons under Rodgers, PL stayed out of it and we saw the results. In the end, he couldn't resist it - ****ed up the transfer of McGinn (who would have been great for us for 2/3 seasons and then we would turn a massive profit on). After that, the relationship between Rodgers + PL was toxic and it was only a matter of time before he left.

We could clearly pay for a very good manager but no manager worth a * will have a backroom staff foisted on him. Also, as soon as PL starts interfering, they'll be off.

I don't trust DD to control Lawwell - as long as PL occupies that position, our chances of getting and retaining a top manager aren't great.

well it has happened the last couple of years, they have not been really affected by Covid or injuries January and February are the crucial months they are playing without pressure just now, no fans in the stadium and we have been *. We start winning they get a couple of injuries and drop some points then it’s game on. Frimpong has won more trophies than that club and all their players has in their short history.
Trophies don’t get handed out in December unless it’s a postponed Scottish cup final in the middle of a pandemic. Get behind the team of * off to follow follow.

Surely a Celtic fan with a degree in accountancy and finances exists on this forum? That should be enough. Probably would work for a fraction of Lawwell's paycheck.

I'm a Celtic fan with an accountancy degree and there is no hope in * I could do Lawells job, even a fully qualified accountant would be nowhere near it. Frustrating as PL is he does do a good job at running our business. Most fans would bankrupt us in 2 seasons

You know about football more than Lawwell. What makes a fully qualified accountant worse than Lawwell? The issue with him is a) he doesn't understand the footballing (not financial) value of a player, b) he doesn't coordinate signings with the manager and c) his bonuses are way too hefty, and are not tied to the footballing results of the club.
