NEIL LENNON reckons Celtic got their respect back despite chucking away a 2-0 lead in the San Siro.

Tom Rogic and Odsonne Edouard gave under-pressure Lenny a dream start against AC Milan.

The Europa League clash still ended in bitter disappointed for Celts.

But Lennon insists he was PROUD of his side for taking on the Italian giants.

He said: “We took the game to Milan. I wanted us to get a bit of respectability back to our performance and I felt we got that.

“We looked far more like ourselves and I didn’t think the scoreline did us justice.

“I think there is a lot to be positive now going forward.

“The players at times showed what they’re really capable of.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been involved with a team that’s gone 2-0 up in the San Siro, regardless of the circumstances.

“We created quality chances and they had to rely on their goalkeeper to keep them in the game.

“I’m sitting here disappointed as it’s another defeat and it’s a sore one to take.

But I’m also very proud of the reaction and their will to put own a performance. We looked far more like a Celtic team that I know.

“The players are disappointed because they felt they were always in the game.

“They are really good professionals who like to win.

“We’re talking about playing AC Milan in the San Siro and we’re sitting here disappointed that we haven’t got something out of the game.

“People may say it’s another defeat and another four goals. I get that and I understand it.

“But the quality of opposition was top class. And the performance from our team and as individuals was a very very, very high standard.

“I was delighted in a lot of aspects of our play. I thought we looked a real threat.

“We’ve let ourselves down, not being physical enough in the tackle at times.

“It’s not as if we were cut open. We’d plenty of players back to deal with it but we don’t.

“That’s the way the game went. It’s how the tie was lost really. There wasn’t much between the teams.”

Rogic fired Celts ahead after seven minutes before Edouard made it 2-0.

But Milan fought back and levelled the game before half-time through goals from Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Samuel Castillejo.

In the second half the Italian giants they scored two more goals from Jens Petter Hauge and Brahim Díaz.

Lennon added: “The second goal comes from our free-kick. It’s game management, really.

We needed to take the sting out of it and slow it down a little bit. But because we were in a positive frame of mind we took a quick one and lost the ball.

“We still had enough bodies to deal with it but they should never have got it into our box in the first place. Is it naivety? Maybe. We just have to be a little bit smarter in those situations."

Asked if goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas should have done better at the goals, Lennon added: “I’m not going to single out individuals tonight. We’ll analyse it as a group and take it forward from there.”

    * me, his comments are the worst part of every game now.

Just * off Neil or at least shut the * up. A Hun parody wouldn’t be as bad as you.

I appreciate if he wants to wait for his pay off but stop talking * at the press conferences for * sake.

Whilst Lennon and the team deserve criticism for blowing another yet another 2 goal lead, I don't think a bit of prospective hurts either. Milan's 4 goals scorers cost £60M. Worth remembering....

Come on now Neil, you seriously can’t genuinely believe what you’re saying to be true. This is very upsetting, a guy who has done so much for the club is imploding and * all over his legacy before our eyes.

Tbf mate, it's a brilliant quick fire point I cannot argue against. All I'd say is by all means slate Lennon and the team for Sparta and even tonight. But again, those 4 goals scorers cost £60M. It has to be taken into account, simply has too.

Doesn't discount the shocking defending. That is true. But again, £60M.

Can you imagine would we would expect from four players that cost £60m

Of course he's going to come out with rubbish like this....he's not going to walk away from a £2.5M a year job (* knows who decided to pay him that) in a million years, no matter how badly it's going.

The board will have to sack him.....but they're not willing to cough up so we're totally knackered.

I'll ask again, what does he need to do to get the sack?

I've asked this after nearly every game since October. Still no answer.

Our second goal scorer had been valued at £30million. And we have a wage bill of approx £30million. Worth remembering...

They would be utter * under the current system.

If this whole episode has taught us anything, it’s that players need proper coaching, tactical training, and structure.

Putting a collection of individuals out there and hoping one of them does something, isn’t a legit strategy at all.
