Years ago i bought a bottle of cognac for 250 quid, mental lol but i was earning good money at the time, ended up i couldney get the * cork oot as it was sealed with wax, so i stabbed it with a knitting needle and it broke up and fell intae the bottle.

I had to pour the bottle through a siv intae a bowl then use a funnel tae pour it back intae the bottle. :56: :52:

    True story.

Big fan of the old pulteney 12. Ordered a 12year balblair today too. Usually go for 1 slightly bigger ice cube in it. Also, keen to hear of any suggestions for a decent non peaty whisky if anyone has any ideas? Up to about £70

My personal opinion is the best value decent Whisky is Talisker. It's maybe a bit harsh for starting off with though. Can't go wrong with Jameson's as it's a lot smoother. I still enjoy the odd Jamesons but usually stick with Grouse or Talisker if I want to spend a bit more. Usually get decent deals in run up to Xmas.

I enjoyed the Ardbeg but most people I let try it looked at me as if I was * mental :giggle1:

    Definitely not for everyone.

Do you like sherried style whiskies? If so I'd say give the GlenDronach 15 Revival a try. Should be able to pick it up for under £65, the 12 year old is great as well and under £40. A bit cheaper, and not as sherry in your face is Bunnahabhain 12, despite being an Islay it's completely unpeated and is often on offer down to £30, if you can get it at that price it's an absolute bargain. If you aren't a fan of the sherried style, maybe try a Clynelish 14, probably around £45ish.

thanks mate appreciated will have a wee gander and see what I can get myself for a Xmas gift to myself! Had a miniature of the balvenie 17 and it was class, Double wood so and oak then Sherry cask so if that’s your preference it’s really good.

I go through phases with Balvenie, sometimes I really really enjoy them, others I think they are a bit meh. Tried the 17 a few years ago and enjoyed it, but not enough to pay what it's selling for now, it's not a £90 bottle as far as I'm concerned. Having said that I certainly wouldn't be complaining if someone bought me one for Christmas!

Just noticed, if anyone is interested, that the Johnnie Walker Green is £28 on Amazon. That's a good price for it, normally when it's on offer it's down to £30. Despite what they say on Amazon, it's not a blended scotch, it's a blended malt, so no grain whisky in it, and you'll be hard pushed to get another 15 year old whisky for that kind of price.

Got a bottle of monkey shoulder and makers mark last weekend. Love a malt but really developing a taste for a good bourbon. Any recommendations for a bourbon send them to me.

I don't have a huge amount of experience with bourbons, but from the ones I've tried wild turkey 101 is probably the best value for money one. Elijah Craig Small Batch Barrel Proof is probably the best one I've had, but it goes for stupid money by the time it gets over here.

@obafgkmlt if he's around, would be able to give better pointers on bourbons than I can though.

Kilkerran is peated though. Not sure what you mean by it's a cask?

Are you talking about the Kilkerran 12? That's only 46% abv, not cask strength. The 8 year old they did is cask strength, but you can't get that for love nor money any more unfortunately, though it was nearer £50.

For me its Laphroaig, Bowmore and Talisker. I like the Speyside stuff as well but the peaty smoky stuff is my favourite, especially the time of the year. The prices have fairly shot up, I can remember not too long ago picking up Bowmore for 20 quid a bottle.

I'm having a few glasses of the 12-year-old Balvenie Doublewood this evening. Gorgeous stuff. Incredibly smooth.
