A Celtic XI played Hamilton Accies in a friendly at Douglas Park today with no sign of Karamoko Dembele in the side.

Last night in Prague Celtic named 10 substitutes including two goalkeepers with Karamoko again absent while Sparta had 12 subs listed.

The teenager was an unused substitute in Celtic’s first two Europa League matches against AC Milan and Lille but Video Celts understands that, alongwith Armstrong Oko Flex, the 17-year-old hasn’t been seen at training for two weeks.

It’s not the biggest issue for Neil Lennon to deal with this weekend but Celtic had high hopes for the winger that appeared for the Reserve side in 2016 as a 13-year-old which prompted a rule change that only allowed players 16 or over to feature.

Karamoko signed a two year professional contract ahead of his 16th birthday in February 2019 and made his first team debut as a second half substitute against Hearts three months later. A week afterwards he was on the bench at Hampden as Celtic beat Hearts in the Scottish Cup Final to clinch the Treble Treble.

Last season he made just two substitute appearances with his opportunities limited by the lack of a worthwhile Reserve League although he continued to be selected for the England youth side.

With his contract running out in June and just a five minute outing against Hamilton in August to his name this season it looks unlikely that Karamoko will play again for Celtic unless there is a massive change in the relationship between the club and player.

    * joke how this has also been handled.
And yes this is also on the manager.
Not hard to have given the lad some minutes last year. sub for ten minutes here or there wouldnt have hindered the title challenge in some games.
This season, Forrest is out long term and he cant get a sniff, instead an egotistical Christie is played out of position instead.

Highest potential player in over a decade at the club, if not country, we just letting him fester away and about to let him go for * all.

    Criminal.

And before anyone starts off with "we had a title to win, cant be risking games" and any of that defence, if that is the case then seriously rip up the entire academy and only sign players ready to go 19 years and over, because that excuse will NEVER not be an excuse at a club like Celtic who are expected to win every game (outwith this season it seems).

Amazing how other clubs in the world who are expected to also win their domestic leagues every year can manage to nurture youth though. Just a weird phenomenon at Celtic it seems.

I'm very critical of our development but I think this guy is overated and okoflex will be doing well to get a conference club .

If he's not getting game time then not sure why he would stick about anyway.

Whether we think he should be in the first team or not I don't see why any professional footballer wouldn't look to be playing at his age.

Because if he doesn’t want to be here, has no interest in being here and is acting accordingly, then send him on his way. He thinks he’s above Celtic, his aspirations go beyond our club. Despite being unable to nail down a regular place on the first team bench.

He’s been cut from the first team squad. He came back to Lennoxtown after lockdown having done no work. He was bottom of the class in fitness and strength tests.

Being an underage superstar, having hundreds of highlight reels on YouTube, having feature interviews with global magazines, having 700k followers on social media, having underage national teams fighting for you - will naturally go to your head. And it’s clear it has.

Very well could be the case his attitude stinks, and if so he will need to sort that out.
But still doesn't excuse him not being bled in to the team last year and certainly this.
Almost every player sees their aspirations way above our club, that's life now.
For all the hype around him, that is including your last line, its no wonder he would be peeved at not being given any sort of chance or opportunity. His attitude may be bad, but lets not pretend he isnt the only one of a current crop of youth that is vastly neglected.
So much so that Welsh, at the age of 20 got only his second start with us after being tossed in against the huns and is now nowhere to be seen. His attitude and performances seemed spot on for such inexperience and if anything deserved also more game time...but alas no where near the bench now.

Afraid to say, this is yet more flaws in the current management setup (as it has been in past setups as well, so not unique to Lennon, but that does not excuse him) in failing to nurture this talent.

Young lad, with that sort of talent and hype being left to rot, not gonna be too shocked to find he may have a poor attitude at not being given game time.

    The guys 17.

Talent and hype aren’t worth a * if you’re not willing to put the hard yards in and try to step up to senior football.

It doesn’t appear that he has any great ambition to break through to our first team. Imagine he has a move down south lined up and will just play u20’s for a few years.

Very may be correct on his future, but we havent given him a chance at all. He isnt the first, wont be the last to be a wasted talent. That lies at us.

You dont get that sort of hype and praise from the footballing world at large without having something to your game. We as a club have failed to nurture that.
