Robbie Fowler wants to take Anthony Stokes to India.

The Liverpool legend is set to be appointed the new head coach of East Bengal and he now wants the former Celtic and Hibs striker to spearhead his team’s push for the Indian Super League.

Fowler has already opened talks with Stokes, who quit Livingston earlier this month despite having just signed for them, over a deal.

The 32-year-old is a free agent after he terminated his contract with the Tony Macaroni side.

Stokes decided to tear up his Livi contract without playing a game because of issues with the artificial surface.

The Irishman has already shown he is more than happy to travel in recent seasons.

He has had spells in Greece with Apollon Smyrnis, Iranian sides Tractor and Persepolis, along with a stint in Turkey with Adana Demirspor. He was also previously linked with a move to Indian side ATK before signing for the Lions

He has certainly far from achieved what he was capable of in his career but that simply is not true to say he has wasted his career more then Watt. Watt has accomplished very little in his career. Stokes scored twice in a Scottish cup final helping Hibernian win their first Scottish Cup in 114 years while he played 191 games for us scoring 76 goals with 21 goal seasons in 2012 and 2014 as well as 19 in 2011. Thus playing important roles in us winning the title in 2012 and 2014 and the Scottish Cup in 2011.

He had the talent and skill to play at a high level but never really applied himself hence why he was a celtic player in the first place he was * fantastic for us for a period but has nosedived ever since with the sparse key performance here and there.

He's 32 and as Brown has shown, a guy who works, keeps himself solid even after a career threatening hip issue* is still vital to the team. Ok sure, people debate the need for Brown now but he's a role model to players who keep applying themselves and they will play at our level well into their 30s

He was still a good age for his peak when he left us and still had so much to offer but clearly his lifestyle was not suitable to maintaining a successful role at a club like celtic and there was already so many questions over his attitude at the time.

He should've/could've been a key player for us to this day if he actually made an effort.

To be fair, blame Elvis. That * seemed to be his downfall :56:

Agree with what you say. He could so easily have achieved more given his talent but he did not have the correct attitude and career dedication. My point was though he was not a bigger waste of talent then Tony Watt as he did have his good spells and can point to some legitimate accomplishments.

A judge has ordered the arrest of footballer Anthony Stokes who is accused of headbutting a man in Dublin’s Temple Bar.

The 32-year-old former Celtic striker and Republic of Ireland star from Dublin claims he acted in self-defence.

He was charged in April with accused of assault causing harm to a named man at Fitzgerald’s pub on Aston Quay, in Dublin 2, on March 16th, 2019, which he denies.

The charge is under section three of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

He was due to appear again at Dublin District Court today to have a hearing date set. However, neither the player nor his lawyer were there.

Judge Colin Daly was told the defendant has remained in regular contact with Garda Donal O’Neill, the prosecuting officer. A long adjournment was required for the hearing because the alleged injured party lived in the UK and was not willing to travel.

Judge Daly noted the accused and his lawyer were not before the court, and he acceded to an application to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.

Mr Stokes, who has an address at Wyckham Point, in Dundrum, Dublin 14, “made no reply to the charge”, the court heard on April 28th last. Disclosure of evidence to the defence has been ordered.

    Sentencing powers
The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed summary disposal meaning the case should stay in the district court and not go to the circuit court which has tougher sentencing powers.

    Jurisdiction was accepted.

In an outline of the evidence given earlier, Garda O’Neill said it was alleged Mr Stokes headbutted the complainant once, “knocking him to the ground and temporarily losing consciousness”.

However, the man did not suffer lasting injuries, the court was told.

On conviction, the district court can impose a 12-month sentence for the offence.

Mr Stokes denies the charge. On the night in question, he had been at the bar with his girlfriend “and says he acted at all times in self-defence, proportionately”, his solicitor had said at a previous hearing.

The footballer had been ordered to abide by bail conditions.

He had to continue living at his current residence in Ireland and notify gardai if he obtains work outside the State, and provide the address as well as name of the employer.

He has given gardai his mobile phone number and had to remain contactable.

Hard to believe he only left 5 years ago. He's played for enough clubs to last two careers in that time.

Was definitely a talented player at Celtic but a total headcase- Rodgers wasn’t long in telling him he wasn’t required, did him and Griffiths play at the same time- imagine they 2 on a night out

Never fufilled his potential. His ex-teammates will tell you he was on another level but wasted his talent to some extent. Although his partnership with Hooper wasnt exactly a disaster, produced some nice football and plenty of goals.

Best partnership at Celtic since Larsson and Sutton.

Then Lennon stopped playing them together for some reason after we won 9-0 at home against Aberdeen.
