One of the key reasons I'm waiting a little longer to switch.

Got a new car recently in September. BMW 318d M Sport 69 plate G20. Lovely car with all the bells and whistles. Lacks slightly that initial punch and pull.

Been looking into potential chip tuner, Bluespark seems like it gives actual results, I’m not looking for major gains just 15-20 extra ps and more torque. I’d go down the remap option but it’s a new car so won’t be doing that for a few more years until the warranty runs out.

Do the diesels have the full preconditioning through the App?

One of the best features I’ve found in the 330e, car is toasty on these cold mornings. In theory there should never be any window scraping either come next month!

Tuning boxes are detectable even once removed. If you're claiming for something big, and the dealer checks, they'll be able to find out the car was running with a tuning box.

Just be aware that your warranty claims for related matters might be rejected if you do fit one.

I think you can turn on the heating in the car from the app, definitely the front and rear screens, I haven’t tried it yet though. I’ve got the heated steering wheel on the car too which is very handy in the winter!

I have read that dealers can still see the code coming through from tuning boxes even through you remove them. I have also read that if you remove them well in advance of a service and drive at stock for a 100 miles or so it clears out any left over signal/code.

Could be wrong or could depend on the dealer. It’s why I would only go for a beginner box with not much of an increase in the power so as not to have any undue stress on the engine. I mean the engine on the 318 is running well below it’s capability anyway so I don’t think there’s a risk of failure from 15-20 increase.

As you say still a small risk involved though.

You'll be absolutely fine with a tuning box if it’s physically removed when it goes into the garage for any issue, warranty or otherwise. It doesn’t show up even when plugged in.

My old man's been going off his nut because the wee sensor beeper on his Kia Sportage beeps constantly when reversing, it's been in to get fixed for that twice already. He said last time just to rip the thing out if they can't fix it, and now it's happened again. Quite funny tbh, he's got no patience at the best of times.

A good remap is more reliable than a cheap tuning box.

Cars are cars and things go wrong even when standard. That's why we pay more for new cars under warranty.

Some dealers are ok and turn a blind eye to things if they are still getting paid for the warranty work. If it's a tough job, or you aren't a good customer, they might throw you under the bus.

You could clear codes on older ECUs, but newer cars log just about everything.
