Great man for stopping the ten, also brought larsson and lambert here.Always thought he would have built a decent european side here,if he hadnt left. After celtic he went to japan for short stint, then doesnt have any managers jobs after that.Anyone no what happened to him?Theres not many interviews with him online an not a lot about him and us,makes me think he doesnt like the spotlight.

He was part of the great feyernoord that done us in milan also and a legend in holland.

He didn't get on with Jock Brown, who was Director of Football at the time.

His team managed to stop the 10 but I doubt he would have done better than Venglos the season after. Plus he wouldn't have signed Lubo!

Some things are better short term. This was one of those things.

He did sign Henrik. I was also at a Celtic do and Davie Hay said we had a fee agreed for Staam and Van Nistelrooy. He said we pulled out at the last minute due to uncertainty. Imagine the potential in that side!!

He has been director of football at Feyernoord for a fair while. Don't know if he still holds that position.

I've always wondered what would have happened if we had our philosophy now back then under the likes of O'Neill when we were spending serious money.

Could maybe have bought the young Ibra, Van Nistelrooy etc.

    Larsson Ibrahimovic Van Nistelrooy

    Wouldn't have been bad.

Yes because Hay was a scout for us for a number of years someone asked at a Q&A "Was there any good players we nearly signed?" He named a few from down south and mentioned Staam and Van Nistelrooy. He said Jansen knew the Dutch market very well and wanted those 2 plus 1 more. We had a fee agreed but the deal did not go through. May well be one of the reasons why he left thinking about it. With Staam at the back and Larsson and Van Nistelrooy up front, we could have had the big European nights back before MON came in.

    Happy birthday Wim!

What a manager he was, even at a younger age I was always impressed with him and felt I understood and learnt more about the game just from watching us at that time.

Withion 10-15minutes of a game being played, he knew if his setup was going to work or not, if not he changed it there and then. No * around and waiting till the 78th minute to chase goals.

FORMER Celtic manager Wim Jansen has revealed he is suffering from dementia.

Jansen turns 75 on Thursday and a biography of his life in the Netherlands will be published this week.

And the Feyenoord legend - who famously led the Hoops to the title in his only season in charge in 1998, stopping Rangers from winning ten-in-a-row - has revealed he is suffering from the condition in his new book 'Meesterbrein' by author Youri van den Busken.

In the book, Jansen discusses how he decided to seek medical opinion after reading a book about his former Dutch international colleague, Piet Schrijvers, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, because he recognised the same symptoms.

Jansen states: "I wonder how fast it will get to me?

Will I remain as I am for a while or go downhill?

"I still enjoy the company of my children and grandchildren. I still try and go to Feyenoord home games.

"But with everything else, I will have to make choices."

Jansen made over 500 appearances for Feyenoord, which included beating Celtic in the 1970 European Cup Final in Milan and was a losing finalist twice with the famous Dutch teams in World Cup Finals in 1974 and 1978. He went on to manage the Rotterdam club too

Yet he was greeted with derision and scepticism when he was the shock choice to succeed Tommy Burns in 1997 at Celtic after a spell in Japan with Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

However, Jansen signed Henrik Larsson and led Celtic to the title and also won the League Cup by beating Dundee United in the final.

But Jansen stunned Celtic fans by quitting as manager 48 hours after they sealed their title with a win against St Johnstone, citing irreconcilable differences with both general manager Jock Brown and chairman Fergus McCann.

He went back to Japan to be an assistant manager at Urawa Red Diamonds and eventually made an emotional return to Feyenoord as technical director and assistant manager before retiring 11 years ago.
