Has to be done. No ifs or buts about it..

We have no one for Duffy just now and Pittodrie will be long ball's so I'd play him for that and drop him after..

3-5-2 can only be the go to for * away grounds we struggle at when we have Eddy and Griff/Ajeti available..

Otherwise 4 at the back either 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 is easily what we're most comfortable and fluid with..

Interesting to see if Paul McLeish makes another appearance on twitter trying to shut down any criticism of Brown or Duffy tonight...

    Shocking idea incoming.

Play Taylor at LB in a 4 man back line, and Laxalt in front of him. We need true width in the absence of Forrest, and Laxalt is almost a LM in reality- very offensively minded, but hard-working enough to give extra shielding to that flank.

One of them where you keep wanting the team changed around because it's still no working but fuckit..

    Maybe something like this

    Barkas

    Elhamed
    Bitton
    Ajer
    Laxalt

    Soro
    Turnbull

    Christie
    Rogic
    McGregor

    Griff

Just for now until it starts clicking and we get a full quota back..

I find it mental player's like Soro can't get a few minute's as a composed, more defensive minded midfielder with leg's for seeing game's like today out..

Play guy's like Griff and Rogic in to form and fitness. They're the one's who look most likely despite being well off full fitness..

Don't ruin Frimpong. Take the wee man out for a couple of game's as he's played far too much anyway..

Leave guy's like Broony for being impact sub's.
Same for Ntcham until he shows us something more. Again same with Mo until he starts showing more..

Once we get Eddy. Jullien. Forrest. Mikey etc back then we can start being more flexible..

Once everyone is back I'd go to a 4-3-3. Leave 3 player's up. Eddy. Griff/Ajeti. Forrest say as the trio that does the damage high up..

The side above has a mix of a lot of pace and/or composure throughout..

    Turnbull
    Frimpong

    Griffiths

    4-2-3-1

May as well try something different. I wish Lennon had introduced Soro far earlier. He should have at least a few competitive games under his belt. He's suffered due to Lennon's loyalty to Brown

I would not mind us try something like this assuming Elhamed, Bitton and Eddy are available soon and that Forrest and Julien are out for a bit.

    ———————Barkas—————-

    ———Ajer——Bitton—Taylor—-

    Elhamed———————————Laxalt

    ——————McGregor—————

    —————— -Rogic————————

    Frimpong——Griffiths———-Edouard

The system would be the 3-3-1-3 which to work would require our defence to be able to be good on the ball hence Bitton playing In the middle almost as a sweeper to start attacks.

Given Ajers ability on the ball he would be able to push out and start attacks that way by driving in to space. Taylor is a naturally left sided defender and is better defensively than offensively so could offer width in a defensive sense and an outlet to get the ball out when space is available nullifying the need for him to beat a player. Laxalt would also be free to get further up the park and has the engine to get up and down. Laxalt would also overlap Eddy in attack as he would tend to get the ball and drive inside. Elhamed has the ability on the ball and engine to get up and down the park, he links play well with Frimpong too or Forrest once fit. Elhamed gives us another big guy at set plays as well.

McGregor will be responsible for setting the tempo and be responsible to get the ball and either get it into the forwards or wide areas.

Griffiths as the central striker or Ajeti would push up on to the CBs pushing them as far back into their half as possible due to the fear of being done in behind. The striker will be supported by Eddy who will be able to play off the left in the pocket he likes to pick up, and by Frimpong holding width on the right to stretch the opposition defence.

Given the positioning of the forwards Rogic will have a free role in between the opposition defence and attack where he can receive the ball get shots of or play in runners either from the front 3 or CalMac from deep, alternatively if you wanted a more dynamic option Christie could play in there or Turnbull is another option.

This could also easily transition to 4-4-2, 4-3-3 (Laxalt drops into CM whilst Taylor goes to left back and Elhamed drops to right back).

In addition having people who are comfortable on the ball at the back and having Frimpongs pace, combined with Rogic and Eddy’s strength and ability to take the ball in you will have options to go direct and have the wingbacks push on and provide overlapping runs or overload situations in our favour.

Teams playing 4-3-3 against this sort of set up will find their compact Midfield three being pulled all over the place resulting in two of their front 3 needing to drop. They will be pulled horizontally across the pitch to cover the lack of wide players and stretching them vertically leaving their striker isolated which takes away the issue of being 3v2 in the middle of the park. There attacking full backs will also find themselves pinned back or risk levelling space in behind.

If a team plays a deep block getting round and turning them is the best way to beat that. Having Ajer and Taylor as two of the back three will allow at least one of them to push right up to support the attack leaving Bitton and McGregor to recycle possession. Or leave them both deeper but spread across and free McGregor to make a late run from deep to support the attack.

Assuming CJ and Forrest are out for a bit and everyone else bar MJ mostly available.

Id like to see us play

    ..........................Bain..........................
    El-ham.......Bitton......Ajer.........Laxalt
    ..............Turnbull.....McGregor............
    .........Christie.........................Moi........
    ........................Ajetti.....Eddie..............

I know its tough on Frimpong, but with CJ being out and Duffy not being the player we hoped as of yet. We are vunerable at the back, but El-ham would give a more solid look to the right hand of the defence to consolidate the softish centre. Laxalt looks a great option on the other side, already showing good link up play with Moi.

Turnbull and McGregor give lots of energy in the engine room, and always looking to play it forward

Christie and Moi tucking in to make room for full backs and get forward at every opportunity because they are goalscorers. Both have good workrate and will support the full backs and midfield partners.

Ajetti and Eddie, once they are up to full speed, no defense in Scotland could handle.

Ntcham - Rogic - Griff all giving competition

    3 years since this...

Going toe to toe with Bayern playing excellent football and confidence flowing through the team and should’ve beaten them.

They’re now the champions of Europe and pumping everyone in sight and we’re getting pumped out of the CL by Cluj and Ferencvaros.

    Brutal.

During the first half on Thursday you could see us sticking to our formation and it worked. It began to go * up when Ajer went off and our players began to tire. Our manager should have made the changes there and then but, as per usual, hesitated and took to long. He needs to be more tactically aware and should by now know what our best formation and tactics to accompany to that formation.

To help shore the defence up and give us more presence without removing the threat of Frimpong from the team, we really should be considering playing Frimpong further forward.

Elhamed is taller, stronger, more defensively minded but also more than capable going forward.

Frimpong is a huge threat for any team. His pace and directness at times can cut a team open. Could we utilise that more by reducing his defensive duties?!

It’s a viable option with Forrest being out for the foreseeable.

Also hopefully Jullien is back after the break.

    A back 4 consisting of:

    Elhamed
    Jullien
    Ajer
    Laxalt

IMO that’s a strong defence. It has pace, presence, power.

A tactical adjustment we should make is to tell the players to avoid recycling possession through the defenders. With low confidence, our defense panics easily.

That’s the team I’d like to see as well.

Don’t understand why he starts Brown every week but when things start to go wrong he’s one of the first players off.

Elhamed has to play. We need to shore that defence up immediately. Get Jullien back in during the week.

Edouard and Griff proved they can play together last season. Ajeti up front on his own is mind boggling.

Mind you it’s not just about selection. It’s the tactics and Lennon seems to be a dinosaur in this department.
