Showed with his challenges from early on that he probably shouldn't be called in to that 6 role anymore. Myself included..

He's much much better going forward..

It shows we should have signed a defensive midfielder. We need a stable holding guy to let McGregor off the leash more, someone like a Ledley who is intelligent enough to sit and read play and move the ball about.

Everytime Ntcham plays we free up Ntcham and McGregor still does defending even though McGregor is far better going forward than Ntcham, we are ruining one of our most creative midfielders and a goalscorer to let a worse guy do what he does because nobody can be trusted.

We've needed a trustworthy sitting midfielder for a long time. Since Wanyama and Ledley left we've never had another guy even half decent at defending come into the team the other best were probably Kayal and Mulgrew who played at the same time as them. Brown has been left to slide down hill as the only stable defensive midfielder.

I think we signed guys like Bitton, Eboue, Soro, Johansen and Ntcham wanting them to be players like Brown and Ledley but they were all more attacking or playmaker types. Been too long since we had a proper defensive player. Even now people want Christie or Turnbull playing beside McGregor who are also attacking players.

Can we now play Christie and Soro at defensive mid so everyone can stop going on about trying everyone there before we finally sign an out and out defensive mid?
Said it all along, Mcrgegor isnt a defensive mid in a month of sundays. Maybe get away with it against weaker teams but not against a strong midfield.

the 1 time he gets up the park and around the box he scores, playing him as a defensive midfielder is a waste of time, its nt his strengtha nd it showed badly today with the amount of stupid fouls he gave away, play him up top in an attacking role and we'll get the best out of him

    Deffo..

We're trying to shoehorn player's who can fill in now and again because our captain is on the way out..

They aren't naturals though or at Broony's peak level in there or consistent..

We 100% should've added a natural with physicality in there, particularly if he has no interest in Soro....which he clearly doesn't..

Once Bitton and Elhamed are fit (giving us more depth at centre half), I want to see Ajer moved into the central midfield and Callum given a more attacking role.

4-2-3-1: midfield two should be Ajer with any one of Soro, Brown or Ntcham (in that order of preference); Callum in the hole behind the striker, with Christie one side and Elyo the other.

Both Ajer and McGregor are too deep to regularly influence the game in their respective ways: we saw that against the Huns when Ajer only managed one threatening move (for the Griffiths chance relatively late on); and today against Aberdeen when, on the one and only occasion McGregor got forward on the ball significantly, he scored.

I'm pleased to see many are changing their minds about McGregor being the midfield anchor. Brown and Bitton fit that role best currently. Possibly Ajer could but too important for the defence.

McGregor needs freedom to play further up the pitch and isn't good enough yet to play DM alone. Gave away too many silly fouls.

Definitely needs to be further up, maybe in 4 or 5 years he can drop back a bit when he slows a wee bit

I didn't think he was in it until Broony went off. Not that Broony was bad, mind you he looks nothing like the player he was just over a year ago, breaks up nothing.

Great tonight. Was huge defensively, constantly beating players to the ball and tracking back.

Was all over the pitch today. Making interceptions in their half and starting attacks, then immediately getting back to clear the ball in our box. Quite a different player from the Aberdeen game.

Had a poor game and as our normally most consistent player the fact his form is dropping too sums up how badly the squad is performing collectively.

His interview was brutally honest and that's refreshing considering Lennon will no doubt say "I thought we played well..."

McGregor basically confirming what we all knew already. The players have not a clue what we are trying to do.
