Its becoming a * joke, there are so many tests now initially stating positive for it then to be negative. As much as Christie has been * recently,it would be a positive for him to be still near the squad.

This screening needs sorted quickly,so many players are doing the right thing and positive tests are ruling them out of games, for it to be wrong.

As farcical as the situation is I am a little bit relieved.

As much as his stats prove his value to the first team this game doesn't actually need him imo.

Possession very very important in these games, and the last thing we need is Ryan going for glory as everytime we cross the 50 yard line and surrending both possession and control.

He would have been a great player to bring on once the game was starting to stretch but I'm happy he's not starting. We need a brave, controlled and dominant performance from everyone on the pitch. There's no room for daddy's little superstar in a game like this.

    Just sayin.

Celtic are hoping star man Ryan Christie could yet be given a dramatic 11th hour reprieve to face Rangers at Parkhead on Saturday.

Record Sport understands the champions believe Christie should be cleared to take part in the first Old Firm derby of the season despite being ordered to self isolate for a fortnight by government health officials 11 days ago.

And they are closely monitoring an attempt by Arsenal to have Kieran Tierney made available for their Premier League showdown with Manchester City at the weekend.

Both Christie and Tierney were instructed to leave Scotland’s squad last week after former Celtic team mate Stuart Armstrong tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the Euro 2020 play-off semi-final glory night against Israel.

While Armstrong would be available for selection for Southampton this weekend, after a 10 day quarantine period, Tierney and Christie have been instructed to stay under effective house arrest.

But today Gunners boss Mikel Arteta insisted he was hopeful of having Tierney in his squad for the trip to the Etihad. And Celtic top brass are awaiting developments as manager Neil Lennon prepares for a table top showdown with his city rivals having already lost at least two players to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are still having some discussions with the authorities,” the Arsenal boss said.

“This is getting very complicated when you are sending players abroad and obviously you lose control.

“Some authorities have different regulations to the actual ones in the Premier League.”

Definitely out are Nir Bitton and Hatem Elhamed, with the Israeli duo remaining in their homeland after coming down with the disease on international duty - while star striker Odsonne Edouard could also miss the match after a recording a positive swab after reporting for duty with the French under 21s.

And while Edouard’s availability remains unclear, Celtic have not given up hope of Christie being given a green light to play after a series of negative tests over the last week.

A source said: “We are watching the situation with Kieran and Arsenal very closely but we will have to wait and see how those discussions go. Obviously, if Arsenal are given permission for him to play on Saturday then it would be difficult to understand why the same would not apply to Ryan.”

Curiously, there was still no confirmation tonight of when Edouard will arrive back in Glasgow after completing a 10 day isolation period in Paris.

But Celtic did move quickly to hire a private jet and will fly keeper Vasilis Barkas back into the country in the early hours of Friday morning after fears the £5m new boy could be left stranded in Athens by an air traffic control strike.

Barkas was on the bench as Greece drew 0-0 with Kosovo in a Nations League clash on Wednesday night and had been scheduled to catch a 7am flight back to Glasgow this morning.

But with two days of industrial action set to begin just an hour later, Celtic forked out to ensure he wasn’t left grounded in Athens.

If he tests negative there's no reason he shouldn't be able to play.

Let Ntcham, Turnbull or Rogic play. Christie can work on his set pieces, passing and shooting while he's away.

People who aren't footballers are told to self isolate for 2 weeks. The argument will be, why shouldn't a footballer need to?

Exemptions or not... I don't see how he could possibly get up to match-speed and be tactics-savvy after being in isolation.

This shouldn’t and can’t happen. We’ve got enough * holes flaunting the rules which leads to us all suffering without sanctioning this and leading to more mayhem. It’s a non story because Celtic will be well aware there is no chance of them changing the rules.

It's two weeks if you've came into contact with someone who has it though, which is why he's isolating.

I don’t understand why you’d need too do isolate if you don’t have it? Surely we would know by now if he definitely had it.

The incubation period of the virus is said to be 14 days.

It's basically taking the safest and most extreme precaution to ensure it isn't passed on.

14 days does seem a long time if he has had negative tests in this period but then if the isolation period was 10 days people would say he might be OK after 7 days of no positive tests, if it was 7 days people would say he might be OK after 4 days of no positive tests etc etc

There has to be line drawn somewhere. It's 14 days. We need to deal with it. Whether you agree or not.

If you have it, it's 10 days isolation.

    Close contact, 14 days.

Because he's at a defined stage of the process - the virus was confirmed, so he doesn't have to account for the incubation period.

Awk grow up. For a forum of supposed “rebels” there are a lot of people who hang on every word the government says
