FWIW, mate, my personal opinion is that a lot of people have a fixed image of Broony circa 2013-16 in their mind and, combined with the black and white thinking you tend to get on the internet, draw the obvious conclusion.

For example, one thing he can't do anymore is get up and down all game like the energizer bunny: be thwarting an attack one minute, driving through ranks of defenders in the final third the next and then back making a crucial interception to stop an attack in our third 30 seconds after that. It's beyond obvious that he can't do that any longer; but it's not true (as some have said) that he never gets ahead of the ball anymore. He still moves intelligently to give good passing options. Even when I offered one person on here a specific counter example leading to a very important goal, they still wouldn't see it.

Edit: a good example just there too.

Another example: he still reads the game incredibly well, has great awareness and positioning and good timing in the tackle. What he doesn't have anymore is that incredible acceleration that more often than not got him back in even when initially beaten. Nowadays he's more normal in that if you're by him, you're by him (just like most players); but he's still a good defensive midfielder for all that.

The way I see it, he's still a good player and an important part of the team this year and I don't think he's done. He's just no longer the first name on the team sheet and the absolute beating heart of everything we do. At 35, I think we can allow him that. This is the year for McGregor to prove he can play that role.
