Hard to disagree with that. I have never been Forrest's biggest fan, but he was fantastic for us under Rodgers, that cannot be argued against. My biggest criticism of Forrest is that he goes missing in far too many games, Rodgers was able to turn him into a big game player, someone that could be relied on when the chips were down. Since he has left, Forrest has reverted back to the norm. He is similar to Samaras in the sense that you know exactly what type of performance to expect after 5 minutes in.

I thought he was excellent last season and hasn't been as bad as many have made out this season either. I also thought he was decent under Deila too.

No doubting he upped it considerably under Rodgers but to say he has been/was crap either side of that is wide of the mark.

Will easily get double figures for goals and assists again this season.

One thing I will say is he needs some serious competition for his place, both to keep him on his toes and to be able to rest him from time to time. Patrolling the wing is a * of a shift to expect greatness for 60+ games a season.

Surely Frimpong is serious enough competition?

He does need competition but i bet there is not many wingers with his stats the last few years and playing so many games . A helluva lot of strikers would like his goals

He’s a winger, he’s never has been consistent over a full season, always comes in spells where he’s either unstoppable or just average.

We got spoiled under Rodgers with Sinclair and Forrest, they basically played as inside forwards allowing them to get so many goals and assists. In a 352 Forrest is not going to be involved as much attacking wise since he always needs to think defensively.

And yet his best goalscoring season was last year. And we didn’t finish the season.

Doesn't suit the 3-5-2 for me, especially on the left.

Totally agree with this. The shift he puts in defensively is underrated imo.
However I agree that this season so far he has looked off the boil and, more frustratingly, reluctant to take on beat his man especially down the line. He enjoys cutting in from the left and almost scored from it v murderwell.
In the 352 I think Frimpong is sufficient competition and atm Frimpong would be ahead of Forrest in terms of starting places.

Think he should whip the ball into the box more while we’re playing two strikers. Anytime he cuts in on his right he’s going for a shot he should be looking to just dip it in for the lads or a quick 1-2

To be honest that's the first time he has had a chance to play with 2 strikers to aim at but was playing on the wrong side to hit the byline.

To be honest, with the personnel we have at the moment I think 4-4-2 might suit us better. Would mean Lenny making the tough choice in the middle of the park, not necessarily a bad thing considering its been our weak spot so far this season.

    Barkas
    Frimpong/El Hamed
    Duffy
    Jullien/Ajer
    Taylor/new LB
    Forrest
    Brown/Ntcham
    McGregor/Christie
    Moi
    Eddie
    Ajeti

Could rotate any of the four CMs mentioned except Brown and Ntcham in the same team. Turnbull, Soro etc to push for places once they establish themselves a bit more.

Think 352 is ideal right now, tbf.

We have 3 good centre halves who bring something to the table. LB is our weakest area so playing with a wing back/winger sort of helps that. Forrest and Frimpong vying for the RWB spot is healthy, as the former needs competition.

And we have an abundance of central midfielders, so going with 3 is a good option right now, particularly when Brown is starting because it brings extra legs to the midfield. Think starting with him in a midfield 2 would be suicide.

I should clarify I actually like and probably prefer the 3-5-2 but I don't think we have the personnel in either wing back position for it to be totally effective (yet)

That would be the tough choice i was alluding to.

To be honest as long as we play two up front we could play a 2-6-2 for all I care :giggle1:

Aye it’s just low confidence/poor form, he’s not the only one that’s started this season poorly, Brown and McGregor have been well off their usual standard. Think a lot has to do with not having a proper full pre-season, we’re still well off our top form.

Still think at the moment Forrest is our best option at left wing back, Mo and Taylor lack the pace to play there.
