If this is true. Hats off to them. They would've taught Peter a lesson that he will no doubt learn and abuse.

    Thanks, Hearts.

If this is true they risk being taken to court if they’ve acted in bad faith.

Also, other clubs will think twice before doing similar deals with them.

Either way we should have things written into the deal to prevent this so a lesson for us if it’s true.

The article in Edinburgh Live suggests we still get the 30% either way..

Aaron Hickey looks set to become a Bologna player, in case you hadn't heard.

The 18-year-old's Hearts departure, and proposed move move to Serie A, has been one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer.

We've had some of the biggest names in European football involved, with Bayern Munich and Manchester City among the interested parties.

However it now seems that Hickey's next destination has been decided upon, and he'll be plying his trade in the Italian top flight next term.

Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reckons the deal could be completed today – but how exactly will the transfer be structured?

Reports this morning suggest Hearts could send Hickey to Bologna on an initial season-long-loan before the deal becomes permanent next summer – with a £1.8million fee on the table. But would this really suit Hearts best?

Here are three possible transfer scenarios.

    Transfer fee up front
This was the one we've probably all been expecting as it seems to suit all parties.

Hickey's contract is up next summer so it's probably the last chance for Hearts to pull in a decent transfer fee for the player. The cash would likely come in handy right now amid the COVID-19 crisis and the Jambos facing a season in the Championship.

At the same time, interested clubs could realistically expect to pay less than they would had the full-back been tied down on a long-term deal.

A £1.8million fee had been rumoured, although it's worth remembering Celtic would bag 30 per cent of this – more than £500,000 – due to their sell-on clause.

This option would also probably represent the best outcome for the player. Hickey is a man not short on options, so will be looking for the deal which suits him best and gives him the best chance of career progression. The security of a permanent deal here and now would represent that, especially if he's not guaranteed first-team football right away.

Loan deal with 'obligation to buy'
The initial loan with "obligation to buy" was reported as the most likely option this morning.

This would see Bologna take Hickey on a season-long loan deal before buying the player permanently next summer. As reported by the Daily Record, deals like this are commonplace in Italy as they allow the buying club to spread the payments over a longer-period. Hearts could also expect some sort of loan-fee up front.

However Celtic would still bag their 30 per cent next summer when the permanent transfer is concluded.

This deal would also require Hickey to sign a new Hearts contract before departing for Italy so the Tynecastle club can recoup a transfer fee when the player is sold next summer, otherwise he would simply leave on a free.

Loan fee and Hickey signs on a free next summer
And that takes us on to the third option.

Bologna could take Hickey for the season, while paying Hearts a hefty loan fee, before signing the teenager on a free contract next summer.

This means Celtic could miss out on their sell-on fee as Hickey would technically be leaving Hearts on a free transfer.

However you have to ask how much a club like Bologna would be willing to pay Hearts by way of a loan fee. So would this move make financial sense for the Jambos?

Also, from Hickey's perspective there's perhaps a lack of security here, so would he be willing to go for a deal like this when there are some other lucrative options on the table?

    One worth watching.

All we have to do is anytime they ask for a player on loan is say no and make it public when we send the player out on loan to there biggest rivals. And keep doing it time and time again then when hearts draw us in the cup don't go to tynecastle. Give them nothing ever again

It is understood Celtic will benefit to the tune of 30 per cent of the transfer fee of Aaron Hickey after inserting a sell-on clause in his move from Parkhead to Hearts in the summer of 2018.

The Hoops attempted to tempt him back to Glasgow, Bayern Munich gave him a VIP tour of their facilities and the likes of Manchester City, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest all chased Hickey throughout this summer.

However, the promise of first-team opportunities and the lure of Serie A convinced Hickey that his future lay in Italy under the watchful eye of legendary former defender Sinisa Mihajlovic.
