Would be my first choice 11 hard on brown and Forrest but they haven’t started the season well for me tbh

That’s the team for me at the moment. Hopefully we will have a new LWB in soon that will go straight into the team and won’t take 8 months to get up to speed.

    Aye this.

Although Lenny deserves credit for booting Ajer up the *, he's been excellent.

It’s a big two weeks coming up during the international break. We need to sort out the following:

    1) Is Eddy staying? This needs sorted out as if he is going we need at least one other first team ready striker in. If he is staying we need him back fit, settled and firing ready to lead us as talisman.

    2) What formation are we going to play, is it 3-5-2; 4-2-3-1; 3-4-1-2; 4-3-3 or another? As this determines what other players we need in. For example if 3 at the back need a CB and LWB, if it’s a back 4, need for LB and LW. It also lets players settle and play there way into form. (Both points with the cavaet that we complete Duffy deal).

    3) The futures of Ajer, Ntcham and Christie need resolved. Are they happy to stay or looking for moves? What does this mean for a new deal in Christie’s case, if he’s staying get him tied down so we avoid him going into the last year of his deal.

If they all stay, are unsettled and none sign new deals we will be significantly weakening our hand in terms
a team rebuild in the future which will be needed if we lose so many first team regulars in the near future.

    4) What’s happening with Griff and Boli needs sorted, if they are deemed surplus to requirements let’s get them moved on, loan or sold. Boli looked a tragic signing anyway so should be looking to punt. Griff’s start of this season is worrying, seems like a return to the pre Christmas scenario where he is out the picture.

    5) Dependent on the outcome of points 1-4; we need to get on with the rest of our own business. Conclude the Duffy deal, get another LB/LWB option in as a bare minimum and then replace any outgoings which could be between 1-4 replacement signings required.

The above will then allow us to have a settled squad and be in the best position to push on with our title challenge and Europa League Group qualification. CL failure was an embarrassment and missed opportunity but Failure to reach EL groups would be a disaster financially.

Assuming we've sealed the deal with Duffy, how many more do we need in the door ?

Another CB, LB and a winger ?

Suppose it depends on who goes.

Another CB, LB and a winger should be brought in regardless.

Duffy, Ajer, Jullien, Elhamed, Bitton and Welsh is plenty of cover at CB imo. Definitely need a LB and a winger though.

Yeah but i think we really need a 1st choice LB which will not be cheap, not great considering we've already spent 5 mil on Boli and Taylor.

    For me:
    • LB
    • another CB I'd like to see (2 if Ajer goes) - we need at least 4 CBs for the volume of games we play
    • Another Striker if Eddie goes, if we're playing 2 up top then we need reliable cover for Paddy and Ajeti
    • Not a total necessity but McCarthy as a bridge between Broony retiring and the new guard (Soro, Robertson, Connell) taking over would be nice

I know the business model we have in place regarding transfers, but this season could be looked at as an exception, gettin a couple in as a quick fix to secure the 10 would make sense.

Reckon we’ll only see a left back and possibly another winger. Agree we need more but think that’ll be our whack.

All I care about is getting 2 CB's who can defend.

I don't care if they can bring the ball out of defence or play killer passes - I just want 2 'none-shall-pass' monsters who get the horn from stopping goals. We have plenty of creative players - we just need to reduce the ridiculous goals-conceded-per-chance ratio.

I don't know much about Duffy, but it sounds like he could be such a creature. Good. One more please!

It's a balancing act to find & develop unpolished diamonds and also maintain our success but as you say this season is different given what is at stake.

In the last 4 Winter transfer windows we've started doing something we didn't do before and that's signing players on permanent deals for not insignificant cash, the issue being is that most of them have had zero or little impact on the team.

    Jan 2017
    Kouassi £2.8m

    Jan 2018

    Bain - (loan, then free)
    Compper - £1.2m
    Hendry -- £1.5m
    Musonda - (loan)
    Morgan - £300k

    Jan 2019
    Weah - loan
    Burke - loan
    Toljan - loan
    Bayo - £2m
    Shved - £1.75m

    Jan 2020
    Klimala - £3.5m
    Soro - £2m

That's £15m spent - not including loan fees and wages - and we've not seen any material benefit for it.

Hammond is in the door and we seem to be targeting a better quality player Ajeti, Barkas, Ely, Duffy etc. but our past transfer failures are starting to impact us now.

Hopefully we can find the right quality to bring a little competition, strength and confidence back in the squad then kick on for Europa, the Quadruple Treble and the 10. Beyond that I think we need have an honest appraisal of how we function as a club.

Would be those 3 positions for me.

    And keep everyone else.

If we do we are in a very good position.
