40%, with lawwell in charge, aye * right. If that was true we wouldn't even entertain offers just keep him for the full length of his contract, there wouldn't be enough profit in selling him.

Buying a 9m striker with 40% sell on fee i highly doubt that what so ever i would say maybe 25%/30%

Lawell knows that ain't good for business

I am hoping there is no truth in the 40% sell on clause, surely with us having had him on loan with an agreement to buy for £9m there can’t also be a 40% sell on?

When we agreed the first deal for Eddy (loan with option to buy for £9m) he had just come off an unsuccessful loan at Toulouse.

If by the minuscule chance there is such a clause questions need to be asked why that was agreed, as it could cost us a fortune and borders on negligence.

It is different with Frimpong where we got him for next to nothing so 30% is effectively going to be like paying his fee.

There is literally zero chance that we signed a player for 9 million with a 40% sell on clause.

The entire point of blowing our transfer record on Eddy was that he had huge potential resale value if he continued to develop as he was whilst on loan. However, there were no guarantees we would ever even make our money back, never mind give up almost half of that to PSG.

It would have been utterly pointless and financially irresponsible to make that deal and for that reason, it’s a nonsense.

A big sell on clause (profit or fee) would hopefully be a de-incentive for Lawwell to punt without a massive bid. Greedy * if true by the way.

Could be 40% profit of any future deal. Has to stay for another 12 months regardless. We’ve made so much profit on Wanyama, Dembele, Van Dijk, Hooper, Ki, Forster, Armstrong, Matthews and many many more - we don’t absolutely have to make profit on every single player.

40% is a monstrous figure but if agreeing to it was the only way to get the player then it may well be true. Peter Lawwell isn't the only man who can play hardball in business negotiations.

I would think Celtic would want to make somewhere in the region of £20million profit on Edouard. Which would put his price tag in the region of £45million. It's huge money but I will be sorely disappointed if Celtic sell before next summer. There is too much at stake this season.

Brighton have been informed of the asking price for reported target Odsonne Edouard.

The Celtic striker is believed to be on Albions radar this summer, with a forward very much on manager Graham Potter's list of transfer priorities.

Neal Maupay was the Seagulls' top scorer last season with 10 goals, and Potter will be keen to strengthen his firepower options with Glenn Murray now in the twilight of his career.

Liverpool's Rhian Brewster and Almeria's Darwin Nunez have also been mentioned in the conversation surrounding Brighton, with Edourad also in the frame.

Celtic failed to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League after losing to Hungarian side Ferencvaros last week, which could see Edouard reassess his situation at Parkhead.

Arsenal and Aston Villa are also keen on the Frenchman, and it has now emerged that any suitors will have to pay at least £40million for his signature this summer, with Celtic reportedly still owing PSG a 40 per cent sell-on fee following his transfer from Paris two years ago.
Edouard's agent Lasana Koita told Record Sport last week talks are planned in the coming weeks. He said: “Odsonne is happy at Celtic and enjoys life in Scotland.
“He is disappointed with the result on Wednesday especially as he was injured and could not play. I think the goal was certainly to qualify for the Champions League. That is football.
    “I will speak with him.

“It is not crucial for Odsonne to be playing in the Champions League but it is important.

“We are going to wait because there is still a target for Celtic. There’s the Europa League and to go for 10 titles.

“Ten titles is important for Odsonne.

“We don’t know what will happen. For now he is with Celtic. We don’t discuss with any other team for now.”

When we signed him for 9 million quid that was his worth, not the multiple times it is now.

Suggesting there isn’t a 40% sell on clause over and above that fee isn’t suggesting Lawwell is the only one that can play hardball in financial negotiations - it’s stating a fact that we wouldn’t have done that deal no matter how much hard ball they were playing.

It means, in real terms, he was gambling that we’d get 15 million for him within a couple of years of our development just to break even. It makes no sense.

I don't see a 40% claus being in the deal that brought eddy to celtic. Its just fans of other clubs starting rumours trying to reduce the amount we make when eddy leaves to make them feel better.

    40% sell on fee?

    Bollocks.

    Lawell would NEVER sanction that.

Agreed, there is no way in which a club like ours could arguably afford to take such a deal, if psg were so adamant on it, Lawwell would have easily just walked away and spunked £3mill on some random we've never heard of, then us fans would be livid at him and never really know the full story.

For the amount we'd be able to get for him PSG will be making a pittance in relative terms and we'd see a fee circa £30mill eaten into like mad. No chance we'd do that.
