Celtic have made their first formal offer for Sampdoria defender Omar Colley, claim reports, worth a total €8.5m.

According to Il Secolo XIX newspaper, the Scottish title holders proposed €2m for the loan, plus an obligation to buy at the end of the season for a further €6.5m.

Negotiations are set to continue, because Samp are asking for closer to €10-11m in total for the Gambia international.

The 27-year-old centre-back has also been linked with West Ham United.

Samp paid €8m plus bonuses to get Colley from KRC Genk in 2018, so want to make a profit on his sale.

Italian newspaper Secolo XIX report the Hoops have proposed a deal that will see a £1.8m loan fee paid for an initial season.

The club would then have an obligation to complete the transfer with a further payment of £5.8m needed from the Neil Lennon 's side to complete the deal.

Negotiations are likely to continue as the Serie A club want up to £9.8m for the tough-tackling Gambia international.

And similarly to their pursuit of Brighton defender Shane Duffy, West Ham United are also interested in taking the big defender to London.

27-year-old Colley arrived from Belgian side Genk for £7.1m in 2018 and any side who wishes to secure his signature will have to ensure the Italians make a profit on the transfer.

Sounds unlikely, there was mention Sampdoria wanted €15m before if it’s numbers like that then, he won’t be coming here.

Simply we need one first team ready physical CB in before we return from the international break. Then another when Ajer goes, who can either play in a 3 game or be ready to come in when required.

There was a guy on kds who said he watched Sampdoria matches, I thought it was a load of pish but he gave his analysis on a good few of their players and explained their current financial situation, so he might be legit.

What he said was Colley had a mixed season, and that he wouldn't really improve us. It sounds similar to the same situation Jullien was in, they wont be looking for 15 million, it'll most likely be 10, which is still a bit expensive.

Neil Lennon insists he's "not aware" of a reported Celtic bid for Sampdoria's Omar Colley.

A report from Italy on Saturday claimed the Premiership champions had lodged a £7.6million "formal offer" for the defender.


It's believed the Serie A club value Gambia international Colley at over £9m.

Regardless, Lennon has denied that the club have entered negotiations to sign him.


Asked if he could confirm the bid, Lennon told BBC Sportsound : "I can't, no.

"I can deny it, yeah.



I'm not aware of that at all."
