    ASTON VILLA are to test Celtic with a £30million bid for French goal machine Odsonne Edouard.

    Villa plan to spend big and have several targets but the Hoops forward, 22, is their priority.


    Boss Dean Smith is also keen on Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma from his old club Brentford.


    But he first wants to find out if Edouard can be snatched from the Scottish champions after bagging 28 goals last season.



    Arsenal may drop out of the race to leave the door open for the Midlanders.

    Crystal Palace and Leicester are also in the hunt.

    Edouard has not shown any sign of being interested in a move to a ‘lesser’ English club but Villa have cash to tempt him with a major contract.

    Their financial power is also giving them a chance in the Watkins and Benrahma races.

    celtic could just knock this * on it's head by stating that we will be looking for bids in the £50m - £60m region instead of waiting to see who will offer the most money at the last hour on deadline day.
    i know it will never happen though, big Pete will at this very moment be getting his wee casio calculater out to see how much profit can be made on Aston Villa's deal.

    Yeah there is every chance he'd turn.down a move to a team like Villa, I'm just saying we'd be silly to take that as a given.

    For those who are in love.....
    Southampton were/are a much more established EPL side though, plucking up bargains from all over and more attacking..

    Villa are more defensive, and much poorer overall quality wise, plus no being established as they will struggle to survive most season's..

    I'd imagine he'd still talk to them but it wouldn't be a good career move for him in my opinion. Half decent striker's from decent leagues are going there and looking pish..

    Maybe more established when they signed Virgil, but only on the league 1 season when they signed big Vic

    Inthink it would be a poor move, he's better than them, but you never know

    Southampton were reasonably comfortable as a mid table side though.

    Aston Villa were a midgies bawhair from relegation last season.

    One of those clubs where strikers go to die. Would be a shocking move on his part.
