Nobel Prize winner and an enormous figure during the latter stages of the Irish troubles. An architect of the peace process who will be sorely missed.

    RIP. :shamrock:

    RIP :shamrock:

Used to see him out walking along the seashore in Moville in the summer every day and he had a huge aura about him mainly because of the massive volume of respect folk showed him.

History will always look on him fondly.

It was a travesty that they made him share the Nobel Peace Prize with that rat Trimble.

    RIP John :shamrock:

John Hume, a giant of a man who so deserved his Nobel prize. Trimble also played a part in going against the grain with the loyalists and being prepared to listen but would never have done it without John. John Hume's relentlessly pursuit of peace and non violence is something we should all aspire to and should learn from. Even when it looked impossible he still pressed on as he could see a greater life in NI for all. A great man, a nice guy and humble with it.

Only getting to hear about this now once seen this post! Everyone on this island needs to pay respects to this man for his drive for peace. Helped chance the whole island into a better place and I certainly thank him for it. Anyone growing up in Belfast knows only too well of the madness that went on a d would still be going on only for men like him to sticik his kneck on the line to acheive peace.

Probably not appropriate for this thread but there won't be too many left in this decade of all who where about when the troubles kicked off. Adams won't be about to long himself, he's been aging rapidly these last few years.
Don't think we'll ever see times like this again on this island but you never know. In my own opinion, the world has moved on to much to ever see them times again in the north!

    RIP

Definitely! How that * got it is beyond me. More PC Bollox why he got it rather than why he got it. 2 people vwho couldn't be far as part as Hume and Trimble for deserving to get awarded it!
