Is the white smoke coming out of Parkhead a sign...or has Lawwell just seen the initial sales of the home top and sparked up a Montecristo?

I would consider this deal if there was someone else more experienced signed as well.

I am getting the feeling Ajer will go So wouldn’t want our only option being someone completely unproven. However he does seem to have potential and is left sided.

Based on pretty much nothing, I'd like us to sign this guy.

We need a left footed centre half and there seems to be a bit of hype surrounding him. Quite a few good Americans coming through at the moment.

I'd like him and aaronsen, and a joint deal may sweeten the deal for them moving over together, both seem real talents

Neither of them were MLS players, or full internationalists, to be fair.

Sounds very promising, especially for the sort of fee that is been mentioned. Sounds very athletic and quick which is what we are needing at the back.

Would be great if we got Aaronson in too.

The MLS owns all the players, transfer fees go into the leagues funds.

I'd like him in, but only if we sign someone else with european football experience at CB. I think we need 2.

Would be a risk expecting him to come in and settle quick. Also, he's from the Bronx, so immediately hard as nails.

Both of these guys are Deebo products, so the club keeps the transfer fees.

Looks a unit and generally Americans have great work ethics, plus he's got a Scottish sounding name. Bring him home Pete!

It’s worth pointing out some of the things that makes this younger generation so different in the US. Before the sport wasn’t really popular, coaching was terrible, and players didn’t even watch it on the weekends. It was very suburban or Latino (which should be a strength, but is a system that operates in parallel and is underfunded) and success happened despite the system. Around 10 years ago, the youth system was professionalized and the FIFA video game series blew up, so the system that this generation went through is just incomparable to what mine went through. More players getting better coaching, more practice, and more culturally immersed in the sport. They don’t have this inferiority complex that the older generations had, and if you put a U21 USA team against an older one, the youth would win handily. There’s a generation of these guys with that classic American athlete bravado but also with the same exposure and upbringing that many European players get (not quite there yet, but much closer). Both McKenzie and Aaronsen are firmly in this category — the Bundesliga is the first place to really recognize what has happened, but we’d do well to enter the market and make it a recognized destination for young Americans before the market gets more competitive.

American “soccer” has has billions invested in it over the last 20 years, and like you say @Diegan they’re really reaping the rewards. It’s not just the massive stadiums they’re building but in the investment in youth and communities.

I know there is a lot more money kicking about in the US but it shows you if you invest in sport you’ll reap rewards from it. American is a sleeping giant in football, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they challenged for a WC sooner rather than later.

    How good is this boy?

1 mill sounds like it'd be a bargain, even if I wasn't blown away by his YouTube reel (albeit supposedly old)..

Seems a no brainer at that sort of number. Been in the team of the week 3 out of the 4 games so far or something i seen. Looks a bit like Ashley Williams, in terms of size, style(“small (for a defender)” stalky, powerful and good on the ball) etc.
