Vasilios Barkas (GK)

We don’t know yet whether he’s a downgrade, or even an upgrade.

Forster was brilliant for us, but we don’t want anything half-hearted. He was desperate to play in England from the very first moment he joined us(the first time) and that’s fair enough.

I’d rather someone that’s 100% happy to be here.

Barkas is 7 years younger, and might be sensational. He could be our keeper for the next 10 years, or he might leave for fortunes.

Who knows - we might even end up getting Forster back in 2 years(on a Bosman) when his contract ends.

Under the circumstances I’m pretty happy.

We need more signings though.

 

I think we could go into the market for a LB (especially if Taylor's injury is going to keep him out for a few weeks) but I have a feeling it might be contingent on moving on Boli.

 

We'll move Boli on mate. Swap. Loan. Something will happen where he goes this window in my opinion..

 

Goalkeepers last longer than other player positions. Barkas is more of a gamble than the twice proven Forster.

 

I agree but our season starts on Sunday and if Forster wanted to be our number one he'd have taken the loan. Not much the board can do about Lennon wanting a goalie in for the start of the league and qualifiers and Forster stalling.

Not to mention the resale potential of Barkas, permanent signing, lower wage etc.

How can that be true? There’s loads of more than capable players in the world within our budget. Not just guys who have played with us previously.

 

Biggest turn-off in a player, since that's all the board look for, not the long-term stability of the squad.

 

I see a few people moaning about signing thia guy over FF, just like the people (me included) who didn't think lennon coming back was good for the clubs direction will also be proven wrong with this

 

Having the same scenario next summer keeper wise isn't good for the long term stability of the squuad either

 

If Forster wanted to be here it would have been done. The board cannot be blamed for getting our 2nd choice when the 1st choice was not interested in coming. Imagine we dicked about waiting on Forster then he went elsewhere, and in the meantime we get tossed out the CL qualifiers because we have Bain in goal, what would you be saying then?

 

The very people moaning are also the people who wanted a perm goalie signed last year and that Fraser was past it
