Stoke City manager Michael O’Neill is considering a summer swoop for former Celtic target David Turnbull

Record Sport understands that Motherwell have been made aware of O’Neill’s interest in the youngster whose dream £3million move to
Parkhead collapsed 12 months ago after doctors discovered a potentially career-ending knee injury during a medical.

Neil Lennon remains interested in Turnbull but – with this season’s transfer window set to be extended into October – the Celtic boss is not believed to be in a rush to make another bid this summer.

It’s understood Lennnon would rather monitor Turnbull’s form when the new campaign begins next month before making a final decision

But O’Neill could try to get in first after spelling out to his club’s fans he intends to recruit a number of cut-price emerging talents from the Scottish top flight.

Newcastle gaffer Steve Bruce is another huge admirer of the midfielder who will be 21 on Friday.

But with Bruce’s position at St James’ Park uncertain amid ongoing takeover talks, his longer-term transfer plans are understood to have been placed on hold.

Now if he goes to Stoke then we must know fancy taking the risk..

Can’t see him displacing anyone in our central midfield over the next 2 years so would be a waste for him to join us

It really wasn't meant to be! Probably saved his career in the longterm though

It's a risky move after the operation but I'd still go for him, get him less than before as well unless his new contract has a buy out clause.

The way he was speaking he wants to get back playing, reckon any move he makes he'll be back to Motherwell on loan.

Wouldn't want to waste the lad but if we were that interested last year I'd be bidding for him and letting them keep him for a season in the deal lets him progress again and saves us losing out and end up like McGinn deal

Sorry I don't feel this is a McGinn type signing, don't think he'd ever get near our team.

Central midfield is the least of our worries.

I also don’t feel it’s a McGinn type deal as he was outstanding when we missed him. All for * pennies too.
I think central midfield will actually be an issue within 2 years though so we need to really be looking now for a future player.
Brown will probably retire, mcgregor could leave, ntcham leaves, rogic leaves, Christie (maybe leaves) all within the next 2 years I would imagine

It's a risk we probably don't need to take, hopefully the likes of Robertson will make an impact this season..

It's an area we have good depth in at the moment but Lenny obviously rates him.

Probably his agent drumming up interest, its one of those ones if we get him fair enough if we don't I won't lose much sleep.

If we do we should loan him back until the January window get some game time in his legs and if we need him bring him in for the run in..

Lots of games crammed in this season.

Definitely isn’t a McGinn type signing. Turnbull is far superior technically.

Am I not right in thinking Turnbull is an out and out attacking mid (Christie , rogic).. hes not really comparable to soro brown McGregor robertson connell ntcham. In fact if you look at our reserve team we don't have an up and coming central attacking mid. Maybe Coffey but he seems a bit more box to box. Everywhere else in the reserves we are relatively strong. For me if the money can be right and we could move rogic on for the right money then it make sense. Don't even have to move rogic on this summer, we could buy Turnbull on the understanding we can loan him straight back to Motherwell for the season. It's also in our interest to have a strong spl
